How do you keep pack rats away?

Hey everyone, I have some property in the forest and started seeing mouse turds in my storage bin. Seen that about a month ago and planned to start looking for things to keep them away, just always forgot. I just found a pack rat under the seat of my side x side and started thinking about my truck. A little searching online and it sounds like our wires have a soy based insulation which these rats love. Plus it will be a warm place for them as the weather is cooling off.
Found a pack rat deterrent that goes under the hood and is a light and makes a noise that drives them away. Anyone have success with these? Thinking about getting this one.

I've had same issues with my daughter's little Mazda. She would park it near the grass at her apt complex. They got in and ate through one of the ECU wiring harnesses. After much trouble of trying to troubleshoot why it was sputtering, took it to the dealer and they told me the same thing. Rats were eating through the insulation cuz it's made of soy. When it warms up it's like the dinner bell rang and they had a feast on it. The only solution we came up with is to not park it near the grass/field. Kept it in the center of the asphalt parking lot and kept a rat snake in a cage under the hood (JK about the snake). But seriously, I want to look into that as well as we are looking to purchase a home with some land and this was the first thing I thought of concerning our vehicles being left out of the garage. Never had any experience with anti-rodent devices other than different types of traps.

Edit: I have used a concoction of pepper spray to keep other pests away. Just a solution of cayenne pepper and water sprayed around perimeters. Don't think that's a viable solution to spray under a hot vehicle...unless you're running drugs :D

I will visit Home Depot to see what they have for poison for around my storage bin. I wouldn’t mind spraying where I park, just not sure how it will fair when it rains.
I like the idea of the light because I do find myself camping in remote areas when hunting. I will probably end up getting the gadget from Amazon but I am open to other ideas. I am wishing I had Aux switches so I can wire this into one of them.

I have had really good luck just using bounce sheets they seem to hate the smell works for squrils and mice too, just stuff em in random spots and they bugger off. Moth balls work too but they just stink lol

Gonna try that in my RV!

Thanks for the help. This gives me a few things to try. I leave both my side x side and toy hauler up there and need to keep them peaty things away. And of course my truck when I’m visiting.

For those of you who are worried about critters chewing through wiring harnesses Honda actually makes rodent tape to wrap around the wires to deter them from going through them.

Bounce sheets. Im going to try that. I have a place in the woods and have had some trouble over the years with mice/rats. It nearly all but went away when my wife had had enough and went through the entire pantry and locked all food inside plastic jars/tupperware type containers. However, I did find a mouse nest in my ATV in the shop, so I will be trying the bounce sheets.

Yep...a rat ate the wires to the CHT and knock sensors on my Raptor when it was a few months old, turns out that isn't warrantied, fcs. Tech says it looked like he had been living under the intake for a few days.

Can't think if anyway to prevent it, I am new here and apparently not much good against rats.

I spray peppermint oil in the engine bay and air intake. You’ll need to refresh every month or so. Keeps chipmunks away too. I use this on my tractor and wood chipper as well. Also spray around your AC unit.
Poisons kill owls when they ingest the dead/dying rat/mouse.

I’m going to get rid of the poison. I have been leaving traps out around the ranger, not sure if they are actually catching them. They are set off but nothings in them when I return. ‍♂️
I did put this device in my truck that flashes and put out a frequency that is supposed to keep them away. It’s weird directly to my battery and comes on when the truck is parked.
