Hood Issues, filling with water

Anyone else having issues with the hood filling with water? I am not talking about the noise insulation possibly getting damp or the windshield washer lines leaking because both of those issues are NOT present.

Any time it rains or I wash the truck the hood literally fills with water and it collects between the inner and outer aluminum panels. The water is coming in from the side emblems. Then the only drain holes in the hood are back on the cowl so the only time the hood will drain is when I open it.

It has been to the dealer (twice) and they confirm that the hood fills with water but that the emblems are supposed to let water in....(which is BS)

Any one with a service manual can confirm that the hood is supposed to fill with water, or @ram customer care willing to investigate this further.

This 19 Power Wagon has so many issues it is making pull my hair out.

1. Tires replaced under warranty for cracked sidewalls with less than 300 miles (cords showing)
2. Passenger Side Ram Box, painted cover
3. Rattle in passenger door when window completely up, roll it down at all it disappears (2 dealer trips and only response is cannot replicate)
4. Bought Mopar Floor Liners, part numbers were initially incorrect, took 2 attempts for dealer to get correct part
5. Driver side mirror replacement for the rear facing LED filling with water.
6. Alignment, factory one was complete garbage and was driving around with wheel pointing at 10:30 or 11 o'clock
7. Body / Front end groaning and popping when turning tight in parking lots (still trying to pin point what exactly is causing this)

(I'm in auto industry and this is ridiculous, if RAM needs a new director of quality I will submit a resume)

my overall dealer experience was similar. terrible. specifically on #6, when i picked my truck up, the customer rep
said that the tech "straightened" my steering wheel. i asked for the print out of the alignment, and ended up, they
didn't do it lol in general, this is why i buy used most of the time, just being able to avoid dealer networks and
the hassle of the ever present "cannot replicate / duplicate" b.s. that happens.

the annoying part as well is
#1, #2, #4, #5 are all multiple trips.

one trip for let us inspect it for a day (usually take them 3 hours or so for some off reason) then have to come back for them to actually fix it and RAM apparently doesn't do loaners even for warranty work.

I didn't now it filled with water until I had lifted the hood the other day and water came 'pouring' out of the back... I was like WTF....

Exactly... and I know the hood is aluminum so i am not so worried about corrosion as to in winter if it is filled with water and freezes then separates or bulges the two panels because there isnt a forward drain where the water can drain with the hood closed.

Noooo... Washed the truck last Fri when it was above freezing - didn't open the hood. Who knew? Supposed to get down around -19C tonight. Sooo... I potentially will have a large slab of ice residing in the hood? FFS!

Forgive me for stating the obvious...but I'm going to state the obvious...you better drain that sucker before it freezes and pops the hood apart. On the plus side, I don't think the hood will vibrate while frozen!

No worries. I was concerned enough to be on it like flies on poop. I'd given the truck a pretty good bath on Fri. It sat for the weekend and the mercury plummeted on Sun. It's been well below freezing since. Got the engine up to temp later today and the truck into a heated area and let her sit for a few hrs. Once she was nice and toasty, I popped the hood and... nuthin? Bone dry - not a trace of H2O. Hmmm... Checked all the openings between the outer and inner sheet metal and all was clear. So it would appear that I don't have the issue reported by the OP. Or did I? Evaporated? Naw! Not in four days. Or perhaps some 19 MY hoods have been constructed differently than others? Dunno but relieved I don't have a slab of ice in the hood. Definitely something I'll be looking at closely next bath day.

We've had some rain over the last few days, plus a trip to the local self wash to get some bugs off the grill. I've popped the hood to check a couple of times and haven't experienced the issue myself, either. When I replaced the hood emblems a couple weeks ago, I noticed the one on the passenger side fit considerably tighter than the one on the driver side. Maybe there just are some inconsistencies/tolerance issues that are allowing some of the hoods to leak?

I would also assume that most do not have the issue, and i expect it is an actual issue and the hood is in fact NOT supposed to fill with water. I would also predict it is from poor fitment of the hood emblems which I don't know how to fix except try and get the dealer to replace hood and badges under warranty because doing either or would still possibly allow the same issue if the non-replace component is out of spec

I find it most aggravating that i have already been told that the hood emblems are supposed to allow water past them so my next step is to go back there and show me exactly where it states that and print that out, out of the service manual.
- if that is the case I will silicone seal them to the hood, which I find ridiculous having to do on a $69K truck.

Agreed. The badges should not leak. To suggest otherwise makes no sense whatsoever considering the issues that could cause, especially in the cold. I suspect your dealer pulled that out of their nether regions because they either didn't know or just waant you to go away.

Don’t use silicone... it makes a horrible mess, is nearly impossible to get off and will attract dirt. Clear acrylic caulk would be a much better choice if you have to go that route.

I was thinking of a black RTV because the truck is black and it dries but stays flexible, but you think a clear acrylic caulk would still be better?

Either way i would remove badges and look for a good surface to seal it to the hood that isnt obvious; not just going around it while it is attached to the hood.

I wouldn’t use silicone on anything that I might want something else to stick to in the future. Black RTV might not be too bad. I think it can be cleaned up with rubbing alcohol

Take off the badges and replace the foam around the edge with 3m automotive double stick tape. Do a good job so all the way around has tight seams. Reapply and that will keep water from getting past.

Thanks, I tried this last week and so far so good. I haven't tried to wash the truck yet and see what the results are but through a bit of rain so far so good.

I went with the 3m tape as a first attempt vs the Black RTV (if it still leaks i will go back with RTV)

If anyone has a similar issue. Use a trim tool and pull the emblems off there is a nice flat face behind them to put tape or RTV on the hood and then clip the emblems back on (they are clipped on not stuck on)
- Don't put tape or RTV on the angled face as it will be visible from the outside

Still is very weird that there isnt a forward hood drain and that the hood will only drain when opened.
