High mileage 2022’s

I just picked up a new to Me 2022 3500 Dually with 71K, build is 8/2, after having 24 hours with just shy of 400 miles if interstate and city I am getting 12.3 mpg. doing 70 on interstate got 12.8 around town getting 12.3. had a heavy ranch hand bumper on it and I installed the OEM bumper this morning. Check engine light came on today P2459. It is in regen the last few intown trips and seems to want to really go. when not regenning before it seems to be slow off the line and begin to pull at the end of each gear then drop and pull again.

Did you get any sort of warranty with the rig? P2459 is regen frequency too often, which is not a good thing. It take a lot of regens in a short time to get that code.

Also Code P203F. I filled tank with 3/4 in a jug before it over flows. the gauge showed 3/4 full not empty, "Stuck float"?

Tank can either be overfilled or the level sensor covered in DEF crystals. There is no float in the DEF tank and if you overfill the tank it can give that code.

Factory warranty is out. there is a 3 month dealer warranty they say covers all but the fine print when I read in morning will probably not be good. How do you know the def tank is full before it gets to top. My gauge reads 3/4 then this code says low or empty. now it rereads full but i did get it to the top with 3/4 of a jug. This was a one owner truck and I believe after some clues left in the truck and the towing miles screen it was a rodeo truck and towed 50% of its 71K miles. Idle hours are low I think. I hate to think it needs a new DPF!!! I may attempt to pull the tank and clean the tube with the float inside it and its sensor. and the def injector and see how it goes. I am already nervous about this.

If you’re going to use DEF jugs I would wait until the tank reads lower and add a jug, but don’t try to get it full. If you want to use DEF pumps you can control the pump clicks off.

“DEF Level Sensor Operation:
The DEF level sensor is new starting in the 2019 Model Year. The new design level sensor uses an Ultrasonic Frequency (UF) signal to detect the proper fluid level. Previous model years use a radio frequency type sensor which operates differently, and can be less accurate.
In order for the UF level sensor to operate properly, it is crucial that there is sufficient air space between the top level of the fluid, and the top of the DEF tank. DEF tanks are specially designed to have an air space above the fluid, which is crucial for the level sensor to function. Without that air space, the UF signal cannot be returned to the sensor properly leading to a “No Echo” condition.”

Excessive regen may or may not be a DPF issue. Have you verified what air filter is in the truck?
