Does anyone have any experience with a 6.4 chassis cab truck? I am going to replace my 2500 6.4 megacab with a crew cab 3500 C&C, as I have realized that an 8' flatbed would make my life easier making deliveries for my side business. The wheel wells, and bed sides severely limit my ability to load the truck efficiently.

While I do not need a dually, I am going to order one, because I simply think they look better with the flatbed. I have had zero issues with my current 68RFE 4.10 combination being able to do what I need, and that is how I spec'd the truck for MD to quote. Now I am wondering if the Aisin 4.44 combo has any benefits worth considering? Obviously, fuel mileage will suffer, but I have read that its not that terrible by one account. Wondering if anyone has any input on that as well? I assume its a pretty rare combination, and have seen minimal mention of it in searches. Normally, I dont give a crap about fuel economy, as that is my boss' problem. However, with the way things have been picking up, my wife and I have been seriously discussing me leaving my job to run our business fulltime, and I dont want to order a truck that gets terrible fuel economy with zero benefit to me when I have to actually start paying for my own fuel lol.

I appreciate any input.

We have a 6.4 with the ZF trans 2019 year. 11’4” aluminum flat bed with 4 side boxes.
Last time I looked at the MPG it was 11.9, thats with guys that don’t give a sh*t how they drive it.
EXAMPLE: 88000 miles and it needs steer tires again first set made 42000, I will run it over alignment rack on this pair, they burn the outside tread off center tread is ok. Drive it like they stole it!

Still looking at getting the Hemi?
The reason they offer the Aisin in the C&C is so that there's the ability for PTO for applications that need it. I can't imagine there's any difference in durability between the two, the ZF is a great trans.
Maybe try and search for one close to you and see if you can drive it?

As for MPG, it's possible that it could get better mileage while driving through town, suburbs etc. but highway mileage will most definitely suffer due to higher RPM while cruising.

Definitely still getting the Hemi. It will do everything I need out of the truck. I have liked my 68RFE, only issue is the clunking on the 2-1 shift occasionally. I was more curious to see if there was any benefits over the 68 besides getting a real shifter for this application.

Have you looked into the registration requirements for the State it will be registered in? Also the insurance could double being a commercial vehicle.

Example: My 07 3500 C&C in Commifornia was double the insurance rate, even if I didn't use it commercially, identified by the VIN being a true commercial vehicle, for calculating the premium. Registration costs were just as bad, I had to register it per the GCW (Yes, the total combined weight declared) and could not be over that or get fined. I registered it for 15,000 GCW (the lowest allowed) to keep the cost down. In Nevada the registration requirements (commercial, or not for hire) was based on what the insurance reported to DMV how it was insured. I was lucky that my agent was able to get it insured and registered as a not for hire truck, regardless of the VIN.

In hind site, I should have bought a 3500 rather than a 3500 C&C, being that it was 07 truck, I could have got it with the 5.9 and not the 6.7.

Just food for thought.

Very good points! I am in NH, so registration costs are already astronomical because there are no taxes associated with it. I'm considering buying it through the business to add an additional layer of protection between me and anything that could happen as well, so Im not too concerned. It will more than pay for its self if I end up doing the deliveries myself.

I was actually pretty surprised by the cost difference between a bed delete dually and a C&C. $4-5K less MSRP if I remember correctly for the C&C

The hemi never had a 68rfe to my understanding

The 8 speed behind the 6.4 is exponentially better than the 6.4 6 speed combo, you will love it!
