Help me decide... oh, and hi!

The Hemi is a wonderful car engine.
The 6.4 Hemi in the HD trucks is not the same 6.4 Hemi that is in the Challengers and Chargers. It is a truck engine designed specifically for use in the HD's.

What is the payload of a 2500 limited diesel?
Not a lot but still a lot more than a 75th anniversary PW. I looked up payloads on the most loaded versions of both that I could find. It should be at or close to the worst case payload for each model. The 75E PW had a payload of 1080 lbs and the Cummins Limited Crew had a payload of 1882 lbs.

Here's the VIN's I looked up: 3C6UR5SL9MG529984 and 3C6TR5EJ9MG544927.

So here’s the bottom line from ram trucks.com and this is not what I expected based on the Cummins fanbois here but I’m guessing they drive very different when towing heavy loads.

Towing / Payload:
PowerWagon Hemi 4.10: 9,470 / 1,420
2500 Hemi 3.73: 13,850 / 2,720
2500 Cummins 3.73: 14,030 / 1,880
2500 Hemi 4.10: 16,350 / 2,720

Interestingly, I looked up the VIN of the PW I’m looking at, and here’s what it says. Curious what this 75E PE has or doesn’t have vs what you looked up… will compare the window stickers.

Something seems off, since this is what the VIN lookup shows for the Cummins I’m looking at:

actual payload on mine which matches when I plug my vin into the payload capacity guide.

Drove a PW 75E and a Limited 2500 Mega Cab Cummins short box today. Guess which engine I liked better?

Well don't keep us in suspense. I know acceleration was quicker with the Hemi. Of course torque is stronger with the Cummins. All depends on what you value. By the way I have a MegaCab and love it. What did you think of the Mega?

Cummins no doubt

Yep. Preferred the Cummins, even with the added weight of the mega cab. But I still can’t get the Power Wagon off road capabilities off my mind. I went camping out in BLM land a few weeks ago with some buddies, and I rented a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, and it was really fun to drive off-road. No rock crawling, but turned off the trail and went up and down (and across) some 20-25° hills no problem. Disconnected the sway bars and crossed a few ravines with no problem.

No doubt the Limited could handle mild off-roading, but I keep feeling like the PW is a good compromise between a fully capable off-road jeep and a big-boy truck. Why can’t they make the PW with a Cummins diesel!

Actually liked it a lot. Definitely won’t help with any off-road capabilities, which is one factor I’m weighing heavily, but with the back seats flat it was MASSIVE in the cab, seems like a Queen sized mattress could almost fit in there.

Yea the Mega is a great option. The reason they don't put the cummins in the PW is that it is so heavy it would eat up the payload. Then if they modify the PW to have more payload you would end up with a regular 2500. Unfortunately physics does not allow both. Ford tries to do this but if you ride in the tremor off road your bouncing all over the place. You have a tough decision, good luck and let us know what you decide. Note: If you go with the Cummings you have to get a Mega!!!

The decision isn’t as tough as living with it, because no matter what I decide I’ll always wish I had the other one at certain times. Get a Cummins, wish I had a PW when I go camping/off-roading with the boys. Get a PW and wish I had a Cummins when I think about towing a camper. Guess I can’t win unless I buy a Cummins and then get something like a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for the bumpy trips.

as a Power wagon owner and a former wrangler rubicon owner X3. A power wagon is no replacement for a jeep wrangler if you are serious about getting offroad. You do not live that far from some very good offroading ie The Rubicon trail and the Dusy Ershim to name a few trails.

And a Jeep Wrangler is no substitute for a Toyota :evil grin:

well depends on how well built either is :). box stock I will take a Rubicon, but yup built yota's of all variations can go about anywhere. Have a buddy that built a T100 and it gets it done. He is on 40's now I think he was on 37's here but still really capable.
