Just joined with hopes of learning more about 2020+ 2500 or 3500s.

My first vehicle was a ‘52 Chevy pickup and I worked driving a 1981 Peterbilt with a Cummins powerplant in the late 80’s for a minute.

I’ve been dialed-in on ordering a 2021 Ford F-250 ($83K MSRP) but realized that I haven’t really got into what the Ram HDs are all about.

My first post is going to be along the lines of “Why did you choose Ram?”. I’m really am curious and I like everything I’ve read so far other than the transmission stuff.

Glad to be here.

Welcome to the site. I joined the site about 6 weeks ago, for the same reason. I chose Ram because I just felt it was an overall better truck.

I was in the market for an HD truck and wanted to get some insight on why folks chose the HD Ram over a Ford or Chevy. I had always been a Ford guy except for a Chevy I owned a few years back, but I wanted to take a look at all 3 brands. I liked the look of the HD Ram and my initial research seemed to be telling me that I would get more truck for my buck with the Ram, and I still believe that to be true. A comparably equipped F250 would have cost me more. I have only had the truck for a few days, but I am very pleased thus far. I went with the Hemi because I just don't have a need for the diesel, so I can't really help much there. But, the truck I bought did give me all the Payload (3060) and towing capability (14560) I needed. The payload is comparable to the Ford but the towing capacity was 2k better than the Ford 6.2. To get the same capability, I would have had to spend extra on a 7.3 engine with Ford. I can say the finish and feel of the truck is much better than my Fords. It looks and feels like I should have paid more than I did and it just seems to be better put together. It is also a more comfortable ride. I bought it about an hour away from where I live and the ride home Saturday was better than expected. It is an HD truck, so you do feel the bumps but it seems to handle them better and once on good highway, it was a very smooth ride. The cab is much quieter than the F150 I just traded in. It is almost "library" quiet in there. Basically it comes down to the fact I got the capability I needed, the looks I wanted, the comfort I wanted, and the gadgets I wanted, at a better price than I could get a Ford or Chevy.

I don't know how much of a help this is but all in all, I think you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at and test drive a Ram. Ram has been fighting a perception battle for many years, but I believe they have come a long way and are starting to win the perception battle. Good luck in your search!

Thanks, MikeG! That's super helpful. I'm in a vacuum here and when I start down the path with analytical brain, it's a slippery slope for sure! It's a curse.

No sooner do I decide, "The 2021 Powerstroke F250 Tremor is THE one." than I read something that tells me. "Wait, I really should give the Ram a shot." I was driving a 2020 GMC 1500 AT4 that I sold for $1K more than I bought it for (crazy market). I bought it for the 6.7 gasser and Allison transmission but the interior was just bugging me...so damn cheap. It did well with serious off-road (other than width) but still...just didn't like it enough. I'd be a Power Wagon candidate, but the decals (which I would remove immediately) and, mainly, the seats having that huge "Power Wagon" sewed into the bolster are FUGLY IMO. Makes it feel like it's trying too hard. I know, cosmetic stuff but I am in the truck a lot and it needs to do everything for me.

This week, I hope to drive them all...again. The Ford Powerstroke and 10 speed is really unreal to drive but it is rough (leaf springs). Anyway, thanks!

You're very welcome! I totally understand. My wife was giving me crap, because I had a couple different spreadsheets of information comparing the different brands and individual trucks within the brands.

That's also good to know! If a fellow analytics monster ended-up with Ram, that, in and of itself is a strong endorsement!

I drove a lot of different trucks over the years. Always loved the '50s era Power Wagons, they went everywhere. And the newer models still do. I don't own one, but I own a couple of the next best things. 2018 2500 and a 2015 Rebel.

For me personally, the amount of truck for the money was what made me order yet another Ram. I've had multiple Chevy's, GMCs and Fords during my lifetime, but none of them ever kept me loyal when moving on to the next vehicle. However, this being my third Ram in a row (2015 1500, 2016 2500, 2020 2500), I was confident in what I'd be getting and knowing that the same options in any of the other three would have cost me 7-13k more, it was a no brainer for me.

If you do end up with a Ram, stick around the forum and you'll have a great community of like-minded (at least when it comes to truck selection) folks around you.

Thanks from a fellow Coloradan (one of 10 people still here who were born here, I think)! I'm really liking what I've seen so far. I went to a dealer to sit in the difference trim levels and a Power Wagon. I do not like the interior of the Limited. I find it really gaudy. I'm going to have a dealer work-up the Costco pricing for a loaded Laramie then go drive them. The Ram dealers here in the metro area strike me as "car salesmen" and act the part. Still amazes me..."What would it take for you to buy this XYZ today?" Really? Haha. More later.

I chose Ram just because Dodge and Ram are all I ever drove. I feel Ram is not afraid to go out side the box and design something no one else has. the interior is second to none. I just like the fact that Ram is always trying new innovated ideas for the truck market.
