Height and Parking Garages

Hi Folks,

My 2022 2500 CTD (stock) according to RAM is more or less 81 inches tall (the shark fin being the top). I'm heading into the city tomorrow and I've found a parking garage at 6'10'. Not a lot of wiggle room I realize, but do any of you have real world experience when finding public parking garages a too tight fit? The height warning bar at the entrance says 6'10" and it looks pretty beat up....hint hint.

Go for it? I'd hate to block traffic in the AM commute if I had to abort at the entrance.

Parking garage construction can vary. In other words, the concrete beams are not all necessarily the same height from the deck and ramps between floors can be particularly hazardous where they transition between flat and slope. When I worked in Charleston (WV) I drove an F350 dually that had a radio antenna. That thing whacked every concrete beam all the way up to my assigned spot on the sixth floor. There was only inches of clearance to my roof, and I always hit the empty PVC height limit bar coming down the ramp though I missed it going up.
Judging by the clearance in my carport (low ceiling) my '23 Ram is the same height as my '17 Ford was - odd because it has larger tires...
Anyway, you might consider going on a weekend to see if you fit, rather than wait until rush hour.

My garage is 84" and the driveway slopes down towards the garage door... it doesn't clear the door. I even tried backing in with no avail. Personally I wouldn't try it in case I got stuck and couldn't turn around. Maybe a rental car is in your future lol

These land yachts definitely are not parking garage friendly. I dread inner-city parking with mine.

I scraped and damaged my shark fin when entering a parking garage due to the downward slope at the entrance. That angle was just enough to cause the problem even though there were a couple inches, supposedly, to spare.

I drove in one of those one time and swore never again. Didn't damage anything but it was extremely close. The super hard part is the truck wasn't maneuverable enough to make the tight corners without a 2-3 point try. Never again.

You should be fine, this garage was a 8ft clearance but I did park at another one that was only 6.5 feet - it left little room for error so i just went to the very top where I didn't have to worry about finding a spot that I would have to worry about clearance.

If there is other parking alternatives I would go that route.

I don't try anything less than 7 feet
But mines a Power Wagon sitting on 35s.

Mine won't fit in my 7' door garage on 35s. I would NOT try it!

My clearance lights were hitting the pvc clearance bar at a garage in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, thought for a second that they probably put the bar a little lower than the actual clearance height inside, but decided to go back to the hotel and take an Uber to the wedding,

Look and make sure if you do try entering the garage the over-head sprinkler pipe mains.

***Update***

Well, I made it in the 6'10" garage. It is an experience driving along as each beam goes by. I found myself ducking on each pass...ha ha.

I do have air suspension so I did lower it just for peace of mind knowing it only lowers the bed.
