Heated steering wheel issue

Ok so after a year of dealing with this, from April 4, 2023 - March 11, 2024, they finally fixed the issue. It took them basically starting from 0 and doing everything over again. In the end the truck got at least 3 new steering wheels, 1 steering wheel harness, 2 switches, 1 clock spring and 2 heated seat control modules. It was the final control module that did the trick. So my theory is that either the module they put in the first time was bad from supplier or the bad clock spring fried the new module before it was replaced and they had to go back through the whole process. In the time it took to fix the issue I went through 2 service advisors and 2 techs. It took the service manager and lead tech to finally fix it.

have a 2021 Ram 2500 Laramie 6/7L Cummins, and for about a year now during cool weather the heated steering wheel intermittently fails. I'll turn it on and it'll come on for about 10 seconds then shut off, if I try to turn the heated steering back on, it shuts right off. I'm guessing it's an issue with a sensor of some sort. Has anyone else has had this happen and was successful at getting it fixed or might know what the actual issue is? Is it as easy self-fix or do I have to go to the dealership?

you can check the module for codes, jscan or alpha.. probably showing a short or open circuit. Mine was the clock spring. which seems common . you can check components with a mutimeter

Mine was doing the same thing. It was a clock spring also. Was still under warranty so dealer fixed it.

My 2022 does it as well but seems now to have completely failed. Worked last winter well since I got it last November but then about a month ago it started acting up intermittently and now not at all. Haven’t seen the dealer yet but it will.
Same year with same problem

Same issues as many here. I'm hoping to replace the clock spring, but dang I can't figure out why there are two options. Anyone have a clue what the difference is? (besides price, by a lot). @BighornHDRam I saw you used the cheaper of the two, but maybe I'm missing something that helps me decide.

I have been looking at the same two clock springs. Looking around at the various sites that have descriptions, I believe the 68528303AA part is for trucks equipped with heated steering wheels and adjustable pedals. The 68528302AA part is for trucks without the heated steering wheel/adjustable pedals. Thankfully, in this scenario the cheaper part is the correct one for the heated steering wheel...probably means they had to ramp supply of the part so much due to the demand from the faulty clock spring that it is now cheaper.

Both the heated steering wheel on my 2022 Ram 2500 Laramie and the left-side rear wheel buttons (the ones that change the radio stations) intermittently work...definitely linked turning the wheel because the heated steering wheel stays heated in the driveway when it works and no wheel turning. Looking into changing out the clock spring.

I found someone who posted a how-to on YouTube, and it looks a bit involved but doable with my skill set. Getting the steering cover off looks like a pain. Hopefully it doesn't require software to calibrate inclinometer, steering angle, or other sensors after the swap.

Thanks @HD Rider; it's good to know the difference is listed somewhere. Thanks Mopar Canada!

Based on what I've read/watched, it seems pretty straightforward as long as you take your time. My understanding (so far) is there is no software requirement, and you can't put the wheel back on unless it's correctly aligned. Cool feature if that's the case. Just ordered mine and will post back whenever I can find time to do it. Ideally before the next cold snap- this fancy truck is making me soft.

Keep us posted. Mine is very intermittent as well so I may do the spring replacement too.

I need to do this too. Did you already look into what is required to disable the airbag? i have replaced a number of steering wheels over the years. when the leather wrap degrades it drives me insane. but each airbag is different

I have a 2022 2500 with 43k miles. My heated steering wheel stop working couple weeks ago brought it in. They said needs new steering wheel to fix the problem. I have the Maximum Care warranty. They told me it’s $829 to replace and it was NOT covered under warranty. I think it’s total BS the best warranty and it’s NOT covered.

Have you read your warranty terms and conditions? The heated steering wheel is listed as covered on my max care.

Yes I did and showed the tech. He said oh I dunno when I enter the code it says it’s not covered. I said it right there in writing. He just said to pay out of pocket and submit for a refund. I just said no figured I call Mopar and have them call dealership.

Update. Called Mopar guy told me 100% it’s covered and said dealership put it in wrong and gave me claim # to give to them. And my rental should’ve been covered and submitted by dealer. Such a pain in the ass

I am experiencing the issues with steering wheel heating. When I turn it on it stays on for a couple of seconds and then turns off by itself.

I guess I need to start with exchanging the clock spring. Can anyone help me to find out correct PN for that? My truck is 2023 RAM 2500 Limited and I am learning that a lot of electronic parts are different than previous year trucks. Mopar site gives me the PN below when I search for it. I just wanted to be sure before I buy it.

I had same issue with my 22 2500. I had the dealer fix under warranty.

Jimmy07, Brutal_HO or anyone else knowledgeable, can you comment?

Do youn know what they did to fix the problem? My truck is 2023 and has so many changes compared to 2022 model.
I believe he said a “clock spring” and q wiring issue. They replaced the steering wheel to fix the problem.
