Halogen to LED Reflectors WITHOUT alphaOBD or OBDgenie

I’ve got a question about swapping halogen lights to OEM LED reflector lights. I understand this can be done by swapping the headlights and changing the settings via AlphaOBD or the OBDgenie.

I am(was) goimg OBDgenie route, but today after I swapped the headlights and BEFORE I connected the OBDgenie, the lights were working fine. All as is should on stock headlights.

Has anybody experienced doing a direct swap from halogen headlights to LED reflectors without changing the settings via alphaOBD or OBD Genie?

I am still within returning period of the OBDGenie, but I would hate to return it and knowing that I will be needing it later. This goes on a 5500 chassis.

What is the one genie part number you used? I’m not aware of a genie for 2019+ HD projector headlights.

Part is (C-HDL + C-MODBYP) - RAM Factory LED Reflector Headlight Upgrade Programmer C-HDL - 2019-2024. It’s for a 5500 chasis, an RV. Another member on a Facebook group used it, and all works. I talked to a rep before ordering and ensured compatibility.

Are you aware of lights working without it? Would they go dark after a while? Any damaging if used without it? I want to do things right, but if I don’t need it, I don’t need it. Look forward to your feedback.

That one is for DT 1500 led reflector headlights. It won’t work for 2500/3500 projector headlights because they are different bcm settings. The HD led projectors are really flaky if not wired like OEM and programmed correctly with alfaobd.

Their description states “2019-2024 Ram Heavy Duty 2500 / 3500 / 4500 / 5500” and they included a different harness for HD application. The rep I talked to ensure it works with a 5500, and other folks have done it on a 5500 with the same set up.

Any knowledge of OEM LED projectors working without changing the settings, or any reason my swap is working without changes in settings?

I see now, their description picture shows 1500 headlights. That genie is for led reflector headlights, not projector headlights. The bcm settings are different between the two, and without knowing how the conversion harness was built and if all necessary circuits are in place, I couldn’t say (there should be two wires to add to the bcm, and a connector that plugs into the junction block behind the headlight switch). Otherwise, these projector headlights will behave erratically.

My mistake, I do have LED reflectors not projectors. Typed too quick here. Just edited the title and posts.

They’re take off RAM OEM LED reflectors from a 2020 2500, installed on a 2022 RAM 5500

I’m puzzled, have the LED reflectors swapped and they are working fine without any tuning. Driving LED strip works, turn signal, low beam, high beam. I don’t know if there’s a point of installing the OBDgenie
