Grandpa Grey - a '21 75th PW build chronicle

when did you install the Randy Ellis light bar? how did it go with the install?
I just put that on a few weeks ago.

To be honest, it's a pretty good product.. but there's a few issues i've got with it.

1. It was well packaged for shipping, but bent when arrived. had to be tweaked significantly to "fit". I don't think it happened in shipping, I think the jig was potentially off, but with a vise and some leverage, i was able to get it back into shape.

2. Pain in the ass to install. Period. Tight clearances, removal of tow hooks and then scratching up the powdercoat on the new bar to jam them back into the slots in the bumper together, and it didn't line up correctly (maybe because i had to bend it back into shape?) hard to say.

3. Biggest complaint is the holes in the tabs for the light mounts. GIANT. simply no need for that, way larger than any light post on any light I own or have even been able to find. I'm likely going ro weld in a piece of steel as a filler in each one, then re-drill so that they are only as large as I need them to be for my application. So dumb. They should be left blank, for folks to drill them selves.

Rear bumper is now exactly one 95 lb. German Shepherd high... maybe I need a ramp for when she gets older?
Would love to see what you come up with for that. I tried the regular dog ramps for the bed and they are too short for my power wagon, end up being too steep. I think it ends up needing to be about 8' long. Haven't found one that folds up yet that works.

What model leer is that? I like those flip-up doors and screens.

Do you have it keyed to your remote entry? My wife is strict on that option.
It's the standard 100R, I think you have to opt for the 100XR (?) to get the remote release. Mine is basic twin T handles, I like to keep it simple. Opted for a carpet interior, thie "windoors" with screens for the pup, and the thule probar rack system.

One thing to note, that on the windoors (this is the first Leer that I've owned that had them) there is a barrel nut that keeps the windoor in place on the hinge (which is basically just a rolled piece of aluminum). Either one of them came loose and fell out already, or was missing from the factory on one side, and that door tries to jump off the truck when I have the windoor open, and I'm trying to close the slider glass. It's an odd circumstance, and rarely happens, but you notice it pretty quick, with the gas struts being the only thing that is really 'locating' your windoor and keeping it in position when open.

I haven't found anything so far that works- bought a collapsable set of folding stairs that were "XL". Kind of a joke, barely high enough for the back of our minivan. I'll let you know if I come across anything.
