Question for those of you with PPF.

I am getting Xpel on the front along with ceramic coat, window tint, next week when I pick up the truck.

I can't decide between full front which covers the entire hood or just the partial.. there is a substantial ~$1K price jump going from partial hood to full.

I am worried about the seam showing over time.

Anyone done a partial, what's your experience, any regrets not doing the full hood??

Color is Billet Silver NE

ive done partials on car before...now i do the whole hood....my guy will let me get the partial kit and pay a bit more to cover the whole hood....see if thats an option....if you wash your truck alot the seam wont ever really show....its shows more when its dirty...also the hood is pretty tall though so not really in full view....

Yeah I'm leaning pretty heavy to doing the full front. I'm so nit picky that even if no one else ever noticed it would drive me insane..

I did the whole hood and part of the fenders, wish I did the whole fenders. While the line isn't all that bad, I'd prefer not to see it. Also I can see it getting damaged if someone ever uses a buffer and hits that edge.

I just did a partial on my wife's new Lincoln Nautilus. Being that the ram sits so high it's unlikely bugs or rocks will damage the paint past the first quarter of the hood. Thus the extra $1k is really only for you and your my mental state. I think you can't even see the line on the partial unless the light is just right.

I'd spend the $1k on other things.

This is Xpel or other film?

Great points and thanks for sharing the pics of partial that's what i was hoping to see!

Yes this is Xpel film. Also got the ceramic pro done.

I had partial done before and I wont again. Over time it really starts to show. New it isn't that obvious but as the rest of the paint starts to naturally fade and the film doesn't it becomes more noticeable. This time around I was lucky to get a full front done to include A-pillars, door handles/inside the handles, fender flares and rear bumper. Didn't see much need to have anything else done.

I have installed the partial on several of our vehicles over the years. It has always been all that was needed. Yeah, I guess you can see or feel the line if you're looking for it, but nobody looks for it. Our vehicles are garaged, so no paint fade issue. The first one I did, a new black 99 Escalade, is still in the family. PPF is still in good shape, hood is great shape and no paint fade.

Yeah, get the partial front package and just upgrade full hood. They should allow you to do that and it should be way less than 1k. Just did this on my wife’s BMW and it was $250 extra.

Partial on my 16’ I’ve owned since new and always outside. If you take care of the paint you probably won’t notice. Hasn’t been an issue during machine polish. On my new 22’ that’s on order I’ll probably do the entire hood.

I did the entire hood , rocker and flares. Not cheap in my area. About 2k. I think the most vulnerable part on the 2022 is the rear fares especially if you have retractable running boards. They just get blasted. One bit of advice if you have aftermarket mud flaps take them off before you have the flares wrapped. The guy who did my truck just trimmed up to the flap. They were supposed to remove them to wrap under but sales rep never told the tech who installed the wrap. Its fine but it’s just another fine line you will notice when looking closely.
