First diesel, bear with me. Changed the oil and filter today and I always run the engine with the hood up for a few minutes afterward to check for leaks. Is it normal to hear the injector pump running? It doesn't make any terrible noises, but I can hear it running in there. Sorry for the silly question, I honestly don't know how loud these thing actually are supposed to be. It sounds like an old tappet valvetrain set up on a small engine.

It will make some noise. Mine seems like a bit of a (very slightly) "lumpy" whine, but I don't know that I'd describe it as valvetrain-ish noise.
