Gas Tank Size ?

I wanted a 6.7L Cummins but since I do not tow 15k plus on a daily basis it made zero sense.

If you run the numbers the 6.7L begins with a huge loss since it is $10k additional. Add the fact that diesel is more expensive compared to gasoline, a few extra dollars for maintenance, DEF, etc. I ran the costs side-by-side and the diesel does not begin to win until it is on the far side of 300k miles. If I required an awesome vehicle that could tow anything and worked hard every day making me money it's a no brainer - the diesel wins hands down.

Then again, for those who purchased the diesel only because the MPG numbers appeared slightly better, there are hundreds-of-thousands-of-miles to go before the diesel even breaks even.

And finally, I can pull in to any automotive shop anywhere in the world and the mechanic can wrench on my Hemi. With all the Class IV emissions on the new diesel trucks, service choices are severely limited. I really do wish I could justify owning a Cummins but for my application the 6.4L Hemi was the clear winner.

$10K goes back in your pocket on the back end when it's time to sell/trade.

Everyone seems to forget that.

You are not going to receive all of that $10k back - I will agree that most likely half or more but then again I am not buying a vehicle and selecting options based upon resale.

I had a quick sixty mile drive up and back today so I set my cruise at 55 MPH and pulled 17.1 MPG on the way up. I turned around and drove back the same route at the same speed and showed 15.1 MPG so I would guess my average is 16 MPG at 55 MPH. Not bad for a lifted truck rolling on 37s with a Four Wheel Camper in the bed. I was driving into a headwind when driving back so I checked the weather at the half-way point and wind was off my nose at an average of 15 MPH so it all makes sense.
Iam not sure I could drive 55 anywhere in Arizona... People will be extremely hostile towards you :)

I bought my 2019 SRW 3500 MEGACAB for 42K .... They have me 60K
....Traded it for a 2021 DRW Laramie.... Then traded it for my 2022 DRW limited LongHorn for 10K more then what I paid for it...

Not sure what the gasers are trading for but dealers were not even asking for them on the lots right now... Crazy times

The quotes I've gotten, from the likes of Vroom and Carvana because I'm lazy and not actually interested in truly selling, for my 75th AE PW have been right around sticker over the last 6 months or so. Based on the listings I've seen on FB and such, I'd feel confident in being able to get something around there, especially because I don't drive much. Truck has 6K on it in 10 months, and 1000 of that was done in 12 hours the day I bought it.

So I could likely turn a 5 figure profit, for sure. But the PW also doesn't quite garnish the demand of a HD that is more or less in severe high instant-need by guys who need them for their profession.

That said, if someone wanted to give me 10K over sticker for my truck, I'd drive that ****ing thing to them.

Truth, coming back on 101 today and most everyone was running 90.
We were out there last week. 75 is getting passed for sure. Locals know the out-of-towners.

Loved our stay. I would move there.....if it were Feb/March weather all the time. Golf every day? Sign me up!

You can be a Snowbird....they are all over Apache Junction and Casa Grande.

I have a '22 2500 Mega Cab that supposedly has this 31 gallon tank. Prior to coming on this forum, I'd noticed that it only took about 26 gal to fill it when it was on E, so I decided to carry a couple of full cans with me (2 and 5 gal) and run it dry. The engine died completely when the range had been "Low" for about 35 miles. I coasted to a stop and since I knew I wasn't terribly far from a gas station, I only put the 2 gal in (which had been filled to exactly 2 gal at the pump). I set the trip OD so I could see estimated fuel mileage for the trip to the gas station and started it up again. When I got there, I had gone 5.6 miles with an estimated MPG of 13.7, equating to ~0.4 gallons used, leaving 1.6 gallons in the tank. I then filled up and "topped it off" 7 or 8 times to the point where the pump would immediately shut off when I pulled the handle. It took 27.484 gallons.

So, that equates to ~29 (27.48 + 1.6) gallons when filled from "engine shut off because the tank was empty" - which (in my opinion) removes any conjecture about the estimated fuel levels being inaccurate. I ran it dry and it only took 29 gallons. I think what is inaccurate is RAM/Stellantis' claim that this truck has a 31 gallon tank - which they probably do for marketing reasons.

I know it's kind of dumb to be pissed that they lie and say a tank is 6.8% larger than it actually is, but that doesn't change the fact that I am actually pissed about it.

That’s an impressive test and data set. Thanks for being a Guinea pig and going all the way.

I also intentionally ran the tank dry... it died while I was sitting at at traffic light....
I put in 5 gallons out of the can I brought with me for this purpose and the truck started right up.
It was then a 2 mile drive to the gas station where I added 25.88 gallons of gas.

I’ve got a 2500 CCLB on order with Hemi, 4.10, 8’ bed, 50 gallon tank. My first trip will be driving it home from MD (700 miles). I’ll let you guys know how it shakes out, but could potentially go the entire trip without stopping for gas. About the same as my EcoDiesel, but a bigger fuel bill.

First thing I did with my 2500 w/ 50 gallon tank was take it on a 500 mile road trip. Evic said 18.6 mpg but real mileage ended up at 16.96. Total empty range is about 800 miles. Not bad.

I agree the tank is too small. the only way to really know how much fuel you can get in is to run it out of gas. I have put in close to 28 gallons and was worried I would run out. One day i am going to carry a 5 gallon can of gas and run it completely empty and see how much I can get in. it would be so nice to have at least a 38-40 gall
My 19 will change depending what the AVG milage is at right now my AVG is 10.2 from lots of plowing and idle time so it comes on at slightly over 1/4 tank but in the summer when its at AVG of 18-19 i get the light at around 1/8 of a tank so i think it mainly goes by the DTE reading that comes from the AVG

23 galleon is way too small. Mine 23 fills 3/4 and then I have to finagle gas in for final 1/4 and then it over fills and gas comes back at me. Recognized and agreed to fix problem. I ask them while they were in there to put in 33 galleon tanks which is what they should have done in first place. 23 is a joke. Now the smaller tank is 26. They said no for two reasons which are it is not part of warranty and insurance would not cover it and did not know if they could get sensor to work on bigger tank. Agreed to pay extra, but they still said no. I asked them to put in at least 26 and said no. Don't want to be bothered even if they know 23 is too small. Don't know if that is BS or not. I think I would pay someone to put in bigger 33 tank if I was assured it would work properly. Does anybody know somebody capable of doing it in the SF Bay Area? Probably do it after warranty expires. Goes in tomorrow for fix, but still won't be happy even if they fix the fill problem. It is otherwise a great truck.
