So I was driving my 2019 2500 hd on the highway and my gas pedal self accelerated itself. I did not have cruise control on it anything. I had to jam up brakes push and pull my pedal. Did this several times on the way to take to the dealer. Anyone else have this happen. My dealer almost seems like they don’t believe me about it. They said they are reaching out to dodge star or something like that. Had my wife been driving the truck it could of been bad. It self accelerated pedal to the metal. It was jammed I couldn’t get it to pull up. Then when I did kicked lots of codes. But the codes it kicked had to do with the braking etc.

Hopefully you do not get a “could not duplicate” ticket. Keep us safe informed.

Was the pedal actually stuck to the floor? If so, look very closely at your carpet and floor mats. I once almost ran my my wife over with her mini-van when a corner of her floor mat jammed the pedal.

Hi dwjez14,

I certainly understand why this would be concerning. Please be sure to keep us updated on your dealer's findings. If you are in need of any additional support while working with them, please do not hesitate to send us a private message.

It gets better. Since there is a recall on a bunch of transmissions with no fix for them yet my truck is on hold to diagnose. It has now been in the shop for 20 days

I hope they gave you a loaner!

Ok...This exact same thing happened to me yesterday.

I was stopped at a light, when light turned green I accelerated.

Note: there were 2 lanes that merge to 1 lane. I accelerated at a pretty good rate, next thing I knew the truck kept accelerating on its own! I applied the brakes, looked at the speedometer and it was over 100!

When let off the brake nothing..I pushed the cruise control cancel..Nothing..selected the gear into neautral and coasted to side of road. The gas pedal remained to the floor while in neautral and applying the brakes...I tried the cruise control cancel one last time and felt the gas pedal release to normal position.

There was a message on
My instrument cluster that said too many selections with a red electric bolt symbol. It all happened to quick.

Thank goodness I was on a rural country road in West Michigan...(M-43) Westbound..The accelerator pedal was held to the floor by itself.

It definitely raised my blood pressure/pucker factor.

The truck is my daily driver/work truck...Very hesitant to be without my truck for any period of time. I do have the Ram factory mud/slush mats, I’m wondering if the pedal got hung up on the mat..I’ll probably call the dealer and ask if they have a reader that might download a fault or the event.

In short: I love everything about the truck, however it scared the s$@t out of me when that happened!

There is nothing in the truck that can move the accelerator pedal. The Rams (like pretty much all modern vehicles) is drive by wire, meaning the pedal is basically just a switch.

If your pedal is stuck to the floor then either the return spring is broken or the pedal is stuck under something.

Good Info

I’m thinking it was most likely hung up on the rubber floor mats. Also, I just placed the floor mats in position without pushing/snapping the 2 pins at the base of the mats, which may have allowed the mat to move forward towards the gas pedal over time.

In the heat of the moment, I definitely didn’t take my eyes off the road while the truck continued to accelerate. All I felt was the pedal held to the floor, it’s not the return spring as I can press the pedal to floor with my hand and it returns to normal (truck off).

Most likely got hung up on the mat (pictures attached)

We recreated what happened with the wife's van. When I applied throttle my left foot left the brakepedal and my heel shoved the mat under the bottom edge of the accelerator pedal while my right foot engaged the gas pedal. This caused it to go to half throttle and I couldn't let go. Since this is a car with relatively low h.p. I was able to halt it with the brakes and shut it off. I end up trimming a large chunk of the floor mat off and put velcro on the back of it so it would stick to the carpet.

This is one reason I was happy to see that the factory and aftermarket Husky floor mats I bought snap into the floor and should not move. If you have had the stuck pedal issue, it would be prudent to look and your mats and see if they can slide under the accelerator pedal.

****added on edit... we posted at the same time ***

mine has done this also, when it stuck while accelerating out a ramp, at 85 mph, hard braking and putting my toe under the gas pedal and pulling back, the pedal clicked like it was stuck on a piece of plastic that broke loose ... NO codes when i took it to the dealer, so they could not do anything ...... another 8,000 miles and never did it again ....

It was not my mat an update on it. My truck has now been in the shop 24 days straight. No answers yet.

Good Lord!

Is the dealer providing you a loaner truck while they diagnose yours?

Keep us posted

I can’t confirm it was attributed to my mat. As mentioned before, I just set my mat in top of my carpet mats when I got them and never snapped the 2 pegs.

Since the event, I removed the carpet mat and properly fastened the slush mats. Have put an additional 500 miles with no issues, so I think my mat may have gotten lodged under the gas pedal.

They have but I have decided to file a lemon law suit. With multiple issues on my truck body panels not lined up well mixed with the fact that it has been right at 30 days now and no end in sight. I just don’t see this going Any other way. I will update the forum as I go through the process for now after 4 weeks they gave me a 2500hd to drive. I’m about to go look at gm products this week probably go ahead and buy another truck. No matter what happens whether it be bought back by dodge or not I will not keep
My truck. It just has to many issues in a short period of time
