Fuel spout protection

After filling my 2019 3500 the first time, I tossed the factory cheap ass "cap" Ram provides thinking it's a capless system and I didn't need that cap/plug. I've owned a few gas cars with a similar system with no issues. But after a few hundred miles and the next fill up, staring into the rather large filler neck, I started having second thoughts of crap or worse water falling into the filler neck, and the next time I filled up dumping whatever right into the filler tube. Having 2nd thoughs I searched around to see what kind of caps were out there. Surprisingly not much.

So I ordered the basic non-locking Genos diesel cap and tried it out this evening. It's quite heavy for what it is. Anyways, you're supposed to line up the groves with the filler neck, press down and twist. Now I'm no weakling, but my cap isn't twisting much without laying down some torque. I've over-torqued / broke enough things to take a more gingerly approach anymore. The filler neck guide lines are plastic, so I'm hesitant on twisting much more. So for now, it's basically just sitting in the filler neck, and it's not really locked/set in place.

Anyone else used the Geno's cap on a 2019+, and did you get it to lock/set in place?

I still use the style from the 2013 to 2018 from Geno's, I saw the plastic lines in the filler. Mine with the rubber plug fits tight and no issues. Went through many car washes and hand washing plus rain. The fill is nice and clean still.

Is this really an issue? This is my second Cummins with that style of filler cap and I've had neither water leakage of any type (the gas door has a gasket, plus the spring loaded inner flap and the offset angle) or anyone vandalizing my fuel. Not criticizing, truly curious.

I wonder how something like these would work if you could find the correct size? Wouldn't lock but it should keep dirt and dust out.

Edited to fix above links that stopped working

The filler lid is sealed, and the filler neck is sealed too, but by just inserting the nozzle, you open up the seal and anything resting in the filler neck falls right in.

I would honestly love for it to not be an issue. Reading up on the CP4 fuel pump and to some degree the CP4.2 that the 2019+ Rams have in them, it seems this expensive ($4k) yet extremely fragile part is very susceptible to failure due to water being n the fuel. When this thing goes, it take out the whole fuel system injectors and all ($10K + repair). And when customers go to get warranty work done, FCA/Dealers blame the customer on getting bad fuel rejecting the claims. Honestly seems like a hot mess, and something I never factored in before making the leap to an oil burner.

So while the fuel filter would probability take care of any dust/crap that might find it way into the filler neck, i'm not so sure about water.

The fuel spout area in mine started getting moisture and dust on the first day. That was before I traded out the fuel door .
I ended up getting the Genos non-locking cap to replace the homemade one which bounced out a couple times.
The Genos one is ok but I expected better. The quality is fine but the design is a bit lacking. It "locks" into place with 1/16 notch - so it doesn't seem to turn much. It has never come loose but not sure I trust that it won't.

Mine is the same 1/16" twist and it won't budge beyond that. I'm not willing to try and put more torque on twisting it. Not much movement at all, and barely feels like it's going to stay in there. Looking at the side of the cap, there's a notch that's larger than 1/16" of an inch, maybe 3/16" or 4/16", which is what I was expect it to turn. I concur that the product itself feel like a quality part, but the design/execution is lacking.

Same boat here folks, worried if i crank anymore and does lock in the notch, i wouldn't be able to get it off! Might just need to wear in.

I got the Mopar locking cap for my gasser, it works fine, but man I wish they had a Geno’s one for the hemi trucks, those are solid.

I used an Oatey 1 1/2" pipe plug om my 2016 for a long time - worked great. You can easily adjust it to be loose or very tight.
Then I installed a locking fuel door and used one of the green caps.

This issue is taken care of with the two fuel filters, I’m at the dealer now and they quoted 165.00$ to change both of them! CRAZY.

Considering the filters are about $100 just for parts (not including shipping), that's not all that bad. You'll save about $65 if you do it yourself, but you have to decide if that is worth your time.

$65 for labor? That's good price, not crazy at all.

That said, I don't really trust anyone besides myself to do fluid and filter changes. I can take my time and ensure it's done right.

I know these aren't the fancy locking caps but doors anyone have any experience with these on a 19 or 20 model, made from billet aluminum. The advertisement shows up to 2018 but nothing after an to my knowledge, nothing has changed with the caps in years.

That diesel cap won't fit the new necks with the 3 ribs in it.

I'd spend $110 for the two locking caps from Genos before I'd spend $100 on a chrome exhaust tip. 19-20 locking fuel cap
