Completed two back-to-back highway trips to the airport, so I decided to check the fuel mileage afterward. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the dash “lie-o-meter” was almost exactly on point with my hand calculation. The dash showed 16.8 mpg, and my hand-calculated result was 16.82 mpg.

Not bad for a brand-new truck that is still breaking in and loosening up. The trip was 95% or more pure highway driving at 65–75 mph.

What engine your signature lists the year and model but not what engine you have?

My 2500 gets 20-21 routinely since brand new combined driving. I've gone as low as 13 when towing 10K lbs and as high as 23 on summer blend diesel highway-flat unloaded cruising.

I'm not sure how much "loosening up" you can expect that will have a significant change in your overall MPG. These trucks are ready to go out of the box.
