Fuel filter

I used a hose draining into a catchcan. The minute I loosened the cap the diesel started coming out of the threads as it continued to drain in the tube. When it quit draining, while finishing removing the cap, a boatload more fuel splashed out. My new thought for the next change is simple. My wife has really cool silicone bowls. The one that is big enough to contain the fuel filter and cap will mysteriously go missing. I will use it to squeeze and hold the cap while removing it. Catching all the fuel that wants to give me a shower. Eventually she will see it in the shop and proceed to replace it, cause once it hits the shop, it’s mine.

PS...Heavy aluminum cookie sheets make excellent carburetor cleaning tray.

Or rebuilding chainsaws..

EDIT: I didn't see Aketay's post before I replied.

I learned a good trick from this YouTube video by "Motor Head" that keeps the fuel from draining on shaft, u-joints, and floor.

Install long tubing on the filter drain valves. When you change the filter, put the tubing in an old milk jug or whatever container you have handy. When you open the drain valve, most of the fuel in the filter will drain out, but be sure to leave the tube in the container until you loosen the fuel filter cap because more fuel will drain as soon as you break the filter cap seal.

Here are pictures for reference. I ziptie the line to the frame to keep it out of the way between fuel filter changes.

What diameter tubing did you use for these drains?

I don't remember, but the sizes are in the video I linked.

This video is for a 2018. Are the hose diameters the same for a 2019?
