I have a 2020 2500 with the Cummins diesel (first diesel). I have about 10,700 miles on it and the fuel filter life gauge reads 29%. The dealer gave me a free oil change at 8500 miles but wouldn't throw in the fuel filters. They wanted $400 to change them so I'll do it myself. Bought both from Diesel Filters Online for $125. The mechanic said to change them at 20%. When do you guys change yours?

The gauge is there for a reason, change it at 0% if it needed to be changed at 20% they would have shortened the service interval…. I change both the oil and fuel filters every 15k (24000km) or when one of the gauges hits 0% usually the fuel filter hits 0 first at 23,500ish km so i do both.

I thought I saw a stipulation to change them at a time interval as well, weather you reach the mileage or not. 1 year rings a bell.

Well I'm coming up on 2 years. The dealer didn't say anything about time intervals.

I'd be doing an oil change and filter change every 5000 miles! What good is the gauge then?

I go by the 15,000 miles for oil and fuel filters as the manual says, or the gauges tell me different because of quite a bit towing. If Ram or Cummins felt it needed to be changed sooner, they'd say so in the manual, and with the newer full synthetic oils it's not necessary. I've had oil analyses done on the used oil and have been told I could go longer, but will stick with the gauge/15,000.

Pretty much same here. I’m at 3 years and 1 month of ownership and am at 18,XXX miles. Basically my trucks a camper hauler and exploration vehicle once we get to our destination. I have a DD for everyday errands etc when we’re at home.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I'm gonna go by the gauges or odometer. It's expensive enough without adding in unnecessary changes. I've never went by the annual changes on any of my vehicles.
