What kind of mpg numbers are you all getting on the new Cummins and Zf unloaded? Most of my driving will be unloaded, and I’m coming from an Ecodiesel which gets 25-28 on trips.

Average 18 MPG, 1,400 miles on the odometer. Our HWY speed limit here is 80 MPH and often fighting head winds, you may get better. I'm coming from an HO Aisin so I'm happy with the unloaded MPG.

Thanks for chiming in! Since you mentioned you’re coming from an Aisin, I assume you’re still in a 3500?

No I'm in a 2500 now, I didn't need a 3500 anymore.
It's nice having a smoother ride with all the power the 3500 HO/Aisin had

Lieometer shows 13.6. That is a mix between towing the stock trailer with a small load and unloaded. I would guess 15-16 unloaded. And 7-8 with the trailer. 3500 drw.

OP should mention SRW trucks, duallies are totally different animal with different gears

The on-board computers are notoriously "Off", in favor of looking better. That is why they are referred to as a " Lie-O-Meter", on many forums.

I prefer the term "indicator". It allows drivers to make their own decisions about the trade off between fuel efficiency vs driving speed in roughly real time. Much better than having no information at all.

Definitely better than nothing. It is to bad you can't calibrate it.

2025 Cummins use the same gears in 2500, 3500, and DRW. But yes, mine is DRW and the original poster is SRW. I did a little over 1200 miles empty when I picked it up. Was running 14.5 empty, but running 75-85 most of the trip.
My lie-o-meter has been running almost dead on with the hand calculations. The farthest gap has been .3 mpg since I got the truck. But most of the time its .1-.2 difference.
Was hoping for a little better than my built ‘03, but the smoothness and quietness of the new one offsets the fuel economy. And I don’t know what my ‘03 is putting out power wise in its current state, but its noticably a lot more than the ‘25 is putting out.

Is your 03 a DRW?

What mods have you done to the 03?

The ‘03 is a SRW. Just updated my sig with the 03 info. Still have it.

BBi’s Stage 1’s with TNT-R will make some decent power, but also some good fuel economy with steady state cruising.

The hips of a DRW will definitely add drag too.
