I don't think so. Where did you get that info?the front camera is intended for off road use.

That is my workaround today. I just have the front camera button in my quick access area at the bottom of the screen.Just wanted to add that I checked again and without fail, if I'm in D and going slow enough that the Surround button lights up on the Uconnect screen, it shows the overhead and front views when pressed. FWIW, this is also the initial view I get if I enable the NAViKS at speed. I'm certain this wasn't just enabled by installing the NAViKS and has done this since day one.
This can be done long before the park sensors would alert.
I agree it would be a "nice to have" feature, but if every nice to have feature was available the trucks would cost even more than they already do. Honestly, this is the first time I've even seen anyone mention the desire for the feature.
There's also the distinct possibility, given the lack of capacity available in the 12" Uconnect as evidenced by the lack of maintenance info available, there's just not enough CPU or working capacity left to keep adding "nice to have" features. I expect they have to draw the line somewhere.
For those with 2500 trucks, you can always get setup with AlfaOBD and enable the Forward camera option, which adds a button specific to that camera including tire guidelines. You would still have to press that button, but could drop it on the bottom row.
And trust me it comes in very handy for that.I have a 2020 Power Wagon front camera while I can turn it on to park. The main thing it is for is to see over the hood while off roading.

I forgot to mention, the Naviks system may do what you want. It's covered in
Modifications and Accessories
Thanks JohnThere is no way to make the front camera respond as you suggest. I moved the camera icon out of the list of things into a slot on the bottom line. That way I have quick, easy access to a button to turn on the front camera.
As for its purpose, it's there for whatever reason you need to use it. I select it when parking or maneuvering in tight quarters. I like that the top down view comes on automatically with the front camera as that view is extremely helpful. I also use it when parking in today's small parking spaces. I can put the front bumper a couple of inches from what's in front.

Funny.. I’m looking at installing a front camera on my 22’ (obviously not equipped) but the 23’s now activate the front camera when the front parking sensor is triggered.. I’d like a camera that activates whenever i need it.. sometimes i turn my sensors off. So I’d need it to activate when i press a button. When the park sense alarm is inititiated why would the corresponding camera not activate? It’s literally the biggest value of having a front camera. I know you’re the resident expert Brutal (and love commenting on my comments) but a little common sense would tell you that the purpose of the front camera is to see objects in front of you typically when parking or going slowly up to an object (again, OPs entire point). Shouldnt have to press a button to activate it, just like I don’t have to push a button after going from reverse to drive (and no, pushing multiple buttons is no quicker/easier than shifting IMO). Last note, I do have the surround camera button saved on my Uconnect and when I press it it shows surround and backup not front camera. Perhaps I can change this setting somewhere to do what you’re are suggesting it will do?
Guess we can agree to disagree on if it is “working as designed”.
It would be nice if auto makers treated a 70k purchase like apple treats a 1k phone purchase, where you still get updates after you buy. I don't see any reason that this can't be done with the trucks all the way back to the 2019 model.Funny.. The incremental features added every year are on purpose to entice you to buy a new truck to get that feature. Exactly, and understandable from a marketing perspective. The incremental features added every year are on purpose to entice you to buy a new truck to get that feature. Don't expect any updates to get new features.
I wonder if @Jimmy07 knows if the auto camera activation via the parking sensors or the turn signals can be activated on the older trucks? But im assuming that the BCM or something else is different so it wouldn't be easily feasible to do.
I wouldn't mind to have those features on my '22
And trust me it comes in very handy for that.
The great news is you can leave it on the whole time you are in 4 wheel low.
If you have a 2500 you can enable the off-road camera with AlfaOBD.It only stays on if you have a PW... If you have a regular 2500 with the Off-Road PKG you have to keep pushing the icon to turn on the front camera and it keep turning itself off after so much time.

That $1k cell phone was also sold on the promise of being fast. OEM car infotainment systems are running on the cheapest and slowest components they could find that meet the minimum requirements to run the software. Hell, the UConnect 4 could barely handle the 12” display. That’s why it was missing some features from the 8.4”Those incremental feature updates, very much written to run on faster and faster processors, make the device slower and more buggy, eventually enticing you to buy the new model.
I work in tech, so I'm very familiar with how that works. That said, I'd be beyond surprised if RAM is replacing chips or extending memory on a yearly basis. My guess would be that they are simply unblocking/enabling features on BCMs. I think they may be changing BCMs in a pure attempt to block off people from getting additional features for free. Those incremental feature updates, very much written to run on faster and faster processors, make the device slower and more buggy, eventually enticing you to buy the new model.
