Hi all, just took delivery of my 2021 Laramie 2500 air suspension, 8ft bed, 6.4 hemi, black out edition so it has those tires / wheels (I believe they are 20"). I only bring it up because wanted to relay what is on my truck in hopes of getting some feedback on what is causing my truck to bounce so bad in the rear while on concrete pavement (seems like it only does it on that) at around 70mph. This is my first HD, I get that they ride rough etc, but this bounce is alarming, again seems to only happen on the highway and concrete. I checked my tire pressure, dealer had it set at 90 psi when I took delivery Friday night, I had them back it off to 70psi, other than that just looking for any troubleshooting. The bed was also lite / empty and no trailer. Also, when did you guys do first oil service with break in? Dealer said 3000, I like doing it earlier with the first, what are you guys doing? Was thinking 500 with fist one?

Thanks in advance

You don’t happen to be in Colorado do you?

You do not mention your cab length? Wheelbase has a LOT to do with this. If the wheelbase matches the slab length then things are going to be rough. Also trucks seem to ride better after a few thousand miles. Do NOT change the oil early. Complete waste of time, money and the ecology.

Sorry, good point, crew cab with 8ft bed

Welcome to an HD truck running on I-25.

Lower the tire pressures and adjust your speed if you're able. It still won't entirely go away. The new truck (about a foot longer) is almost worse than my 04.5 QCLB 2500 was.

I second that. Ive driven many large trucks here in CO too and if the wheel base is close to matching the concrete pads on the highway you will get a good bounce. It has a lot more to do with the highway construction than it does the truck itself. Another bad spot for this is Pena blvd after just leaving the airport.

I am, you to?
Indeed. It appears Brutal_HO is as well, hence his response.

Our wheel base is unfortunately the perfect length to achieve a rhythmic “bounce” where the new concrete has been laid over the past few years on I25. There is no way of overcoming this unfortunately. Have spoken with High Country Performance about a few potential tweaks, but unless you change the length of your truck (unlikely) it’s just something that we have to deal with. Trust me I was disappointed as well the first time I noticed the same. Like being in a washing machine.

Thanks all for the comments and feedback! The service manager and I spoke today, he is excellent, going to get tires etc where they need to be and ride with me, mentioned a lot of what you all relayed regarding concrete. This was 25 south near Arapahoe on way to castle rock. Thanks all!!!

I also tell anyone that will listen that low profile wide Pirelli performance tires really really suck on that stretch of road - starting down the hill south of Ridgegate Pkwy/Cabela's. The grooves are wavy and those tires tramline (act like they're on rails) so bad it's crazy. However, I can't recall the last time I was on that road between Lincoln and Hess, it's no longer part of my routine.

Been in Colorado since 92 and I25 has sucked since they laid concrete. The OTR trucks beat the slabs into a big feathered mess.

Also in CO.

18" wheels
37" tires (E2 rated)
44 psi front / 42 psi rear
Weight in the bed
Bilstein shocks

Problem solved (for the most part)

I’ve got essentially the identical set up but am throwing on a set of Fox 2.0’s and a Carli 1.5” + track bar up front within the next month or two. It won’t fix the I25 bounce but definitely won’t hurt it.
How much weight you keeping in your bed? My guess is that’s probably what is likely helping you with “the bounce” the most tbh.

Where and who are you working with?

If you don't want to disclose in the open forum, you can PM me.

Just generally interested in case I have any issues with my truck going in 2 weeks for a few issues.

FWIW, I love the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires... Run them in the summer,

Blizzaks in the winter.
I cant stand blizzaks way overpriced for such a terrible tire i had them and they suck in deep snow, firestone winter force are the top winter tire for cars and suvs in my books i have not had one customer complaint when i sold them and i sold a ton of em

Similar to DelmoniCO, I added the Thuren lift then went with 37" tires on 18" wheels but PSI is at 45/43.

Empty, I still get the bucking up and down I-25 around the outlets, up 470 between Bandimere and I70, 85 north of Sedalia, etc...

The only thing that mildly tames it for me is weight in the bed and/or tongue weight.

It's annoying, but definitely not bad enough for me to consider going back down to something with a shorter wheelbase.

Only 360 lbs in the bed (6 tubes of sand)
