Hello all...so, am new to diesel trucks, never even driven one. Been on a search for RAM 3500 for future retirement use and i think i finally found one here in Tx. Was hoping some here might have feedback or pointers on what you look for in used RAM 3500? Hopefully. the one I will be looking at soon is 2022 3500 with 39K miles on it...Laramie, with HO engine, dually. Been on this site for several months just taking in the comments and getting a feel for general discussions on RAM HD's. I currently have a 2012 1500 that I love...will never depart with it. Yes, i have some major complaints with Dodge, dont we all, but am really happy with the RAM trucks. Alarming to see the tracking file on the transmission problems btw, yikes!
Thanks much!

sounds like you haven't bought it yet....correct?

if so, it's highly possible you could order a new 2023 3500 cheaper than what they are asking for the 2022. Build a similar 2023 online and then take 11% off the MSRP...that's approximately what you can order one from Mark Dodge in Lake Charles, LA (not too far away from Dallas)...and that's without any odd pricing, that's the price they give everyone.

just throwing that out there

if you are comfortable with the pricing...my first thought is a dually with 40k miles either needs tires or will need tires very soon. and that's six tires.

i'd check and see if it has recently had the transmission replaced (carfax or talk to dodge dealer and see if they can pull up warranty repairs)...2022 HOs have been having transmission failures like crazy due to a "snap ring" of all things...

take a look at this thread to see if the used one may have been built within/outside the build dates of the snap ring failures

Not bot yet. Going this Sat to look at it. I plan on asking for all history on it to show me any repairs, replacements and all recalls are up to date. Will look at the new order again. Seemed like i saw that some options were no longer available, but ill check again. Thanks

Just my personal opinion with 40,000 miles and more or less in a little over a year. Might want to ask why so many miles.

whats the pawn stars saying...not that i don't trust you, i don't trust anyone...

didn't say if it was at a dealer or private sale...if private owner, I'd ask for the VIN (say it's for insurance purposes or something) and do some research and make sure what you're being told checks out...if at a dealer the info should be more readily available on their website

is at dealer. They have already sent me docs showing all options on it. Has everything on it i was looking for, except it is gooseneck prepped vs 5th wheel. I plan on towing new 5th wheel with it.

40K on a 22? As long as you are ok with the miles, it sounds like a good runner. Sometimes a truck regularly used is less problematic than a garage queen.

was so excited at finding one i actually wanted...i guess the miles didnt even occur to me but yeah, i guess that it is a lot of miles. It'll mostly be a garage queen for me for a few years until wife and i retire. My 1500 is my daily drive with the occasional bumper pull/camping locally around Texas.

It's your money, if you are happy with the price you get, and the truck meets your needs then buy it. Only you know what are the most important things for you.

Pretty sure MD in Lake Charles is still doing that deal. Otherwise, Granger in Des Moines, IA is. Doesn't sound like you need it anytime soon, so I'd really push you to order one out. You're going to get a brand new truck for probably less than the 22 you're looking at.

We are still offering 11.5% OFF MSRP on all HD orders :) Thank you for the mention
