Hello everyone
Just a quick question, what does everyone think about changing out the front and rear differential fluids on their 5th gen diesel trucks using a fluid extraction pump versus removing the covers.
Also, any recommendations on fluid pumps.
Would be appreciated
TIA

I’ve done it on one of my rigs, but not something that I’d do on my Rams. I like to inspect the gears when I change the fluid. The gasket is reusable too. That being said, probably nothing wrong with that approach.

FYI, no 5th gen HD’s yet.

Are you asking regarding the same copy/paste question you posted on 5thgenrams, or something else.

I find it uniquely curious that you have several copy/paste threads or posts on both forums when you've been repeatedly told your HD questions over on 5thgenrams are on the wrong site.

Are you having difficulty navigating between this site for HD trucks, and the sister site 5thgenrams, which is for 1500 users?

I used the ewk extraction for my 2022 2500 rear diff. I highly suggest getting the manual/pneumatic, $60 on amazon. I initially used the hand pump, but found getting off the ground to pump up again a pita. So I hooked up the extractor to my compressor and worked great. You do have to fish around in the diff to get all the gear oil, so having a constant vacuum allows you to stay under the truck and get all the oil out. I was successful in getting out all the gear oil. I replaced the exact amount that I took out. If looking at the gears is important to you, pull the cover and replace, which is not a big deal. You still get to inspect the magnetic fill plug, if there is excessive metal bits, then I would get pulling the cover. With the extractor, since its easy I will be changing the oil and inspecting the plug more often. Will be doing the front when the amsoil gets here.

The first time changing the axel oil I prefer to pull the cover lose and let it drain over sucking it out so as to get all the fines out of bottom of the housing...
