Filter usage % trouble?

Ok, getting caught in the shorts.....fuel filters are back ordered, a couple of unexpected trips, filter % is down to 9%.
This is my first diesel....do I need to worry about how low % is right now? Last time, I changed filters with much more % left.
Could someone tell me about this?
