Filter fuel before going in tank

I guess a transfer tank would be the best way to go although expensive, does anyone filter there fuel first before pumping into tank. I thought if a man could get a cat or etc 1 or 2 micron spin on filter and even a water separator, and filtered fuel first, you would never have to worry about getting dirty fuel in your system and your factory fuel filters wouldn’t hardly get plugged, maybe wrong??, overall be better for your cp4
 
I never intended to, but that's my current way of fueling my truck. I run a water absorbent 10 micron filter then through a 2 micron filter and into my truck. I have a 110 gallon slip tank that I fuel my heavy equipment and truck from. I put the tank in to do a 5000 mile run last year and never took it out. I'll admit that filling my truck whenever I want to is pretty handy too.

I’m worried about getting a metal transfer tank and it getting rust and junk in it and pumping it in my truck. Am I protected with two filters a water separator and 2 micron particulate?
 
I’m guessing the fuel filter life gauge has no real idea how plugged the filters are. Prolly only goes by engine hours or miles
I was hoping RAM uses a differential pressure sensors to determine filter life. I'm guess that's just a water sensor in the canister then.
 
Here on the farm our fuel is delivered in bulk and stored in steel tanks on stands then filtered/water separated before use. Never had a problem.
 
Maybe not filtered small but at least you know it’s went through something! Fill at a pump and you don’t know what is in the magic pixies flowing through that hose. Did it come from a underground storage tank/ water tank.:eek:
 
Do any of you guys go Thur car washes with your transfer tanks. Does everything stay sealed good?

It won't change.. fuel filter change % is calculated by fuel flow.

Get an aluminum one if you're worried. That's what mine is. Yes, a 2 micron filter will protect you from rust.

No clue, mine's covered in snow for months at a time and it's obviously been out in the rain a lot. No water issues that I can tell, and my hydrosorb filter would let me know pretty quick. I've actually never been through a car wash in my life and I'm 51.
 
Just an fyi if you have never seen the inside of a fuel pump they do have filters on the pump at good fuel stations
 
What are regulations on hauling a 110 gallon transfer tank. Do it have to be labeled? Is it state to state? Any requirements
 
I looked at them. Don’t seem to filter very small. Be nice if there was a way to external filter at the pump
A guy on the tractor forum has one he said he poured water in it, let it sit overnight and the water didn’t make it through the filter. I don’t know what kind of magic funnel that thing is, but it’s pretty remarkable if you ask me..
