Fass or airdog lift pump?

New to the site so if this has already been discussed please forgive me. Just bought a 2020 2500 and I'm hearing a lot about potential cp4 failure. Has anyone installed a lift pump yet and will it help with potential problems. I am aware of how they work as I have an Airdog on my 99. I'm reading that these units, as most bosch units, are prone to failure. Any advise would be appreciated. I spent a ridiculous amount of money on this truck and I'd like it to last.

I just installed a fass 165 on my 2020. I have 5,000 miles on it. Yes “they” say lift pumped with air and water separators are good for the CP4. But you need lubrication too. Hot shots EDT. And hot shot LX4 are a must for those cp4. Or if you got the money, do a cp3 conversion kit. I get my cp3 next week. I ain’t messing around with those CP4s. Already see to many of them failing and wiping out everything.

I have not done a lift pump yet but I did do the front and back Cat filter kits so I can use Cat filters. Have been happy with them so far. Thought I would start with them as I am not going for high power on my truck. They did just come out with a lift pump as well thought. It was not out at the time that i bought mine but I might add it down the road if its needed. check them out at blackmarketperformance.com.

What does the cp3 conversion kit go for? Any idea if it voids warranty? I've got a modified 99 as well so I'm sure the wife isn't gonna be too happy about me tearing into this one with just 1200 on the odometer...lol I use a lubricant in the 99 so I'm familiar with how it works. Thanks

$2,400 right now with Black Friday sale. Yes it will void warranty. But look around, these CP4.2 are failing like crazy. Taking out entire fuel systems, sending metal shards all the way back to the tank. I’m not going to risk it with mine, since I have no warranty lol, I’m fully deleted anyway, and I’m shooting for 700 HP so the CP3 with 10mm stroker will get me there.

And if you hook up fuel psi gauge after stock lift pump, you’ll see when you hammer down on the throttle psi drops to 1-2psi. Cp4 need at least 8 psi. With a Fass system, no matter how hard you hit the throttle, you’ll always have 8-10psi of clean pure fuel for your cp4. The stock lift pump is super weak and loses both voltage and psi when at 50-100% throttle.

The CP4 is the only reason I haven't put a programmer on. I don't want to give them an excuse to not cover a CP4 failure. A Fass sounds like a good idea though. Even then, would they try to wiggle out of responsibility?

I have no idea. Depends on the dealer. A tune isn’t the problem. It’s the cp4. They don’t like water, debris or air. You feed it with ENOUGH clean lubricated fuel they’ll last for awhile.

I have no regrets buying this cowboy cadillac as I am loyal to Cummins. The problem is that my wife HATES the modified 99 quad cab 5sp 4x4 that we also have. In fact, I bought this truck so she doesn't complain the 4-6 times she rides in it anually while towing our travel trailer. The 99 feels like a Ferrari compared to this new truck. With that being said, I tried to talk to her about some upgrades and got an "eff no"....lol. So I have to check with dodge/dealer to see what voids the warranty. I have a 5year 100,000 mile warranty. I will use the recommended additives but I'm afraid I may be stuck with a $70,000 snail for a few years till I pay it off. It's cool though cuz I now have the freedom to do what I want with the 99. I think some twin turbos might be in order...lol

I am in the same boat. My 07 5.9 will smoke my 2020. My wife doesn't care if I do the mods but she would be angry if what I did voided the warranty.
