I have to say that Ram got it right with the tailgate dampener. I ordered the factory one from mopar parts and it installed in less than 5 minutes. It is hidden and works great. I had the Dee-Zee one on my ford and previous Rams and they stuck out in the way on the bed and the attachment points were always coming loose. Nice job to Ram. The tailgate is light because it's aluminum but now i can hit the latch and walk away.

Yeah I thought that also but it came from amazon for 44. That is about the price to pay unless you can find it at dealer.

Is the damper the part that makes it a slow drop tailgate? My tradesman tailgate just drops.

Ordering that tonight!!! Does anyone have the Amazon part #? Or do am I better off ordering directly from Mopar?

I installed mine last weekend. Here are the bonehead things I did to make it a two hour job instead of five minutes:

1. Assumed the ball stud would be above (higher than) the tailgate hinge. When it wasn't there, I thought maybe it was behind the driver side tail light.
2. Removed the driver side tail light. Also not there (duh).
3. Installed driver side tail light. Broke plastic clip.*
4. Went to Autozone to get new plastic clip. Got one that was kind of close. Had to trim to fit.
5. Discovered ball stud was lower than tailgate hinge, down in a sheetmetal tunnel on passenger side.
6. Tried unsuccessfully to reach down and clip the damper onto the stud for quite some time. Items were thrown.
7. Realized that the lower stud was easily reachable from under the pickup.
8. Completed job in five minutes.

Not my finest hour, but maybe it'll help someone else save a little time and frustration.

*The correct plastic clips aren't sold separately; they come with the tail light assembly.

Forgot to mention I bought the part from Dodge City Dodge in Texas. Part was about $26 and shipping was about $9.

This is the story of every repair I do!! So if I get the damper, you helped at least one person, thanks

But did you lose your 10mm socket? That always happens for me....even if I didn't use it.

Does it come one per side or do we need to order two ? I appreciate the above notes about what went wrong nexuses it 100% sounds like how I’d go about the install :)
