I know there are other forums regarding this issue, but we are in quite a bind....

My wife and I are full-time RVers and have only 12K miles on our newly purchased 3500. About a month ago, we started getting the Exhaust Filter Regeneration message continue driving. We followed the message and had no issues. We recently did a 1,000-mile highway road trip and our truck started giving the 100% Exhaust Filter Full - See Dealer Now message when we arrived at our destination. Our current fuel filter/oil life is 25% on the gauge.

Obviously, I will take it to the dealer, however, the closest dealer cannot get us in for 6 weeks. 6 weeks! Our truck has no power. The next closest dealer is 2 hours away (we live in Central Colorado) and their earliest appointment is a week away. We are full-time travelers and have to move our trailer soon. We are very concerned that we will be unable to move our home and will be stuck stranded without a vehicle. I've seen this to be a common issue, which is insane because this is a $70k+ truck.

Is there anything I can do to remedy the issue? It has already shut off once while parked and I have tried driving at highway speeds to trigger a regeneration.

Also, I took it to NAPA and it's throwing this code.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

what code did it throw? it's odd that your towing and you are still having issues.

you could invest in alphaobd, as I thought you could do a manual regen with that software, but that's not going to help you in the short term.

reach out to @RamCares and see if they could assist.

ultimately you're at the mercy of the dealer network to make it right. good luck.

According to the info in the thread below, once a P242F is set, it will not regen and cannot be cleared without further repairs/actions. One of those appears to be the ability to reset the "regenerative filter timers." Also according to the info, if the soot load is not TOO high, once cleaned, the ECM may determine the pressure differential isn't so great that it can't clear and it will do a Regen after driving (get it on the highway).

There is a TSB for a flash that might pertain to this. P242F is one of the MANY codes referenced.

I am sorry about your issues, that is a real predicament to be in. These emission situations, is why I chose to go 6.4 this time. I sure hope the dealer can get you back on the road.

We've finally taken the most dependable engines in the world and made them unreliable (and I'm talking diesels in general, not just Cummins). I got rid of a loaded '15 Chevy LWB 4x4 dually diesel with only a few thousand miles on it just because every time I went to the dealer there would be at least one truck in a bay with the cab lifted totally off of the chassis to work on the DEF system. I'm sentenced to drive big V-8s until they come up with something different.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll continue reading through the resources provided to see if I can find any more info. Right now, it's driving around town sluggishly. It kills me to not have turbo and I am afraid it might not start, but for now, it's running. Hopefully, I can make it to the dealer in a week. I'll keep this thread updated as I find out more information or get into the dealer.

Is there no way for an owner to manually force a regen on these trucks?

Possibly with AlfaOBD, never tried.

I didn't catch the no power, no turbo until his last post. He has bigger problems. The lack of boost is possibly a failsafe or leads to the root cause (failing turbo or VVT actuator). A bad injector or turbo issues causing excess fuel/soot/ash and P242F is usually going to lead to a no start to protect the engine. It's part of the failsafe to prevent engine damage. I wouldn't be driving it.

I agree with Brutal, if you really cared about needing your truck to move your home I wouldn't be driving it around town. I would have it at any garage that would be willing to fix it and prevent further damage even if I had to pay out of pocket.
