I leave my exhaust brake on in auto all the time, even without a trailer. I figure it exercises the variable geometry turbo vanes and makes them less likely to stick in the future.
One thing I have noticed is a sometimes random over-application of the EB. I can’t put my finger on it, but sometimes the computer just elects to go “full-bore” on the thing and leave me hanging in my seatbelt. Odd. Doesn’t happen very often. This is in the “auto” mode.
