Have 540 miles on my new 3500 (see sig) and ran the AC for the first time today. The fan roar from the engine compartment is very noticeable - to the point that my wife and I had to talk louder while we were driving through town.

Hoping that someone will tell me that this is not normal....

The odd time it happens its normal

You're hoping that is not normal that the fan clutch kicks in to bring air through the A/C condenser when you turn on the A/C? Do you know the basic refrigeration cycle and how heat exchangers work?

Fully aware of how AC works and fully aware that I've never heard this kind fan roar before in any vehicle that I've been in.

I notice the fan clutch noise more in my 21 than my 15. I think it is because the engine in the 21 is so much quieter than my 15.

I’d check your coolant level just to be sure. My old Ford had a coolant leak and it got real loud. They may have not put enough in from the factory.

I hear mine once in awhile but not concerned about it, figure it's pulling more air when needed. After coming from the 14 EcoDiesel with inadequate cooling system when towing, its nice to see how stable this trucks temps are, especially when towing.

I'm coming from an EcoDiesel also. Although I never towed with mine, this new truck is totally different! Seems like the only thing the two trucks had in common was diesel fuel. Using the previous EcoDiesel as a comparison though, the fans never roared near this much when AC was on.

I thought the eco diesel was an electric fan that would be why

Yes the Eco has an electric fan. I actually towed my 8200 lb trailer with my Eco and for the most part did a really good job, except when in the mountains and the temps became a problem. With that I stepped up to the 2500 CTD, which is probably what I should have bought all along. I noticed the louder fan noise as well a few times when idling, but not when driving down the road. But I would expect as a heavy duty work engine it would require more forced air at times for various reasons.
