Erratic tick near turbo 6.7 Cummins

Have about 2,500 miles on this oci currently. It’s still making the same tick at high idle. There was a period of time where the tick wasn’t as loud, around the time it was at the dealer coincidentally, but it sounds like it did initially. Not that oil should cause this; but, I plan to use Delo xsp 5w40 at the next oil change. Then I will likely go back to valvoline premium blue 5w40. I will update this post.
I’ve got just a hair over 3k on this OCI with the VPBE. I’m anxious to UOA my truck again to see how the potassium level is looking. I’m anxious to also see how the Mobil holds viscosity in your truck.

I’m curious as well, and plan to send a sample from this run. Let me know when you post yours I always like to read uoa’s

Will do. Have a lot more running around to do now that it’s warming up so hopefully it won’t take too long.

Doesn't sound like lifters at all to me.
Honestly I'd put money on it being the exhaust flexpipe heating up and "ticking" from heat expansion... And thus totally normal.
Thanks, didn’t think lifters either; but, have not been able to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from. Just gonna keep on driving.

If it is the pipe.. It would be quite hard to locate it cause the sounds are originating from different spots all along and around it and reflecting from different angles. If you have a stetho or just a long screwdriver I'd think you'd be able to place it on the exhaust, then compare to the block or other components to better isolate it's origin.

Several hundred miles, over several days, and the tick is still gone. This was in varying temperatures and weather conditions. The only difference is that I changed the fuel filters; which doesn’t make any sense but figured that may be relevant info? Around 70-71F here today and then going back into the 20’s on Tuesday. I am gonna keep an ear on it over the next few days; weird nonetheless.

I’m curious to know if Units unplugged the EGR and if it made any difference in the noise.

Mine started making this noise last week. 21 with 87k miles on it. At first it sounded like it was coming from driver side but once I opened the hood it’s coming from the egr or around there, Hard to tell with turbo and exhaust there tho.
