Engine Noise (howling) When Loaded and Driving Uphill - Engine Brake Not Working

There's your overload indicator. I didn't look at the pic that closely the first time.

yeah, I took that pic when the it gave me the warning. I learned that after driving 5mph, the bags reset themselves and the light goes away (hope that helps anyone).

On another note, I just sold the truck and I am officially on the quest of a dually. I really hope not to regret this because isn't cheap lol

Any thoughts on dually? should I go with factory airbags again or avoid the risk of the bags throwing a code again? I'm sure the without factory bags and sensors the rear suspension will never have told the truck I was overloaded..

If you're running that heavy a truck camper, I think the dually is a no brainer.

For the cost of the air ride, you could also put on a nice air-lift wireless system and have more control.

I'm sorta on the fence that I should have done that instead, but I think the ride would be harsher unladen without the factory air.

Yeah, i found a 2019 dually for a very good price (just shy of 20% off msrp) but does not have the rear suspension...

2019 - lack of 50 gal tank would be a deal breaker for me unless you go aftermarket 52 gal.

ETA: nevermind, I see you're doing a Mega. Not an option....

Ok exhaust brake works same as normal during a regen. Just got back from vacation yesterday.

Mine too. I watched the truck go through an automatic active regen yesterday and had no issue with EB or TH mode on or off at my command.

I fired up torque and watched the temps. Around 640F just cruising ~65MPH at the DOC inlet (post turbo), 1050F at the DPF outlet. I didn't have the SCR outlet up on that screen.

Will post here///let me know if I should begin a new thread.

Had the engine HOWL yesterday when climbing five steep highway grades. Travel trailer well under max at 7,200 pounds. Drove about four hours from 4,800 to 1,000 foot elevations. Issue began North of Phoenix (I-17) ending up in Flagstaff at 6,000 foot elevation. Was in Tow Haul with AC on. Turned AC off when this began. Could barely hear the engine with the load HOWLING. Sounded to me like a combo of fan belt and/or air turbulence. Speed was about 55-60 and rpms at 2800-3200. At the second mountain grade, I increased rpms to 3500-4000 and the howling stopped.

The last howling episode was at 5000 feet and fairly flat area...no real load. It wasn't nearly as loud, but still there. Truck did a great job except for this howling issue which just can't be "normal" operation. I'm somewhat concerned about the return trip due to a really steep grade just South of Camp Verde.

Will call the Flagstaff RAM dealer to see if they can "squeeze" me in for a look. However, we leave in six days...

Thanks in advance for any advice you may offer.

This thread was primarily related to a Diesel and it turned out in another thread posted he had actually tripped the payload overload.

The TFB guys did comment on the loud fan HOWL from the Ram Hemi when they ran the Gauntlet...

Just a WAG, but at that lower RPM, you may not be moving enough coolant and the fan clutch is countering.
