It it the cruise control. Same problem, pulled over, shut it off, turned cruise off, everything fine since. I have since pulled a 19k RV 1000 miles without a hint of a problem. Make sure cruise and adaptive cruise are off when towing a load. Resettable malfunction. Then again maybe the transmission will explode on the way home from Sturgis

Has nothing to do with Cruise its a shift solenoid issue i have towed with cruise with every trailer i have towed with my 19. Even with 20k Its no issue

Made it back to town, about 180 miles no issues. Trans functioning normally and engine light still ON after two engine shutdown cycles. Stopped at 1st auto parts store and truck had code P0765 Shift Solenoid D. I have towed around 5K miles with no issues and the majority with cruise ON. My truck does not have the adaptive cruise.

Update: In late August dealer indicated fauly shift solenoid. Part ordered, just came in and replaced this week. Prior to solenoid replacement, over 1K miles since initial fault with no repeats. Only time will tell if the solenoid was the culprit.
