Does Your Truck Wake Up Like This?

I have noticed that if my truck is locked and "asleep" if I walk up and grab the door handle with the FOB out of range, I can see through the window that the uConnect screen wakes up and the "Press Brake and Push..." to start message light comes up on the instrument display. After 15 or 20 seconds, it goes dark again. It does this no matter if the doors are locked or not. If the doors are unlocked and I get in and try to start, then it notifies that the FOB is not detected. This may be normal behavior but since my last truck was 20+ years old, I don't have first hand experience with this sort of thing. I would have expected nothing to happen from just touching the door handle when the FOB is not within range? I suppose I could keep and eye out for another late model Ram and grab its door handle while looking in the window, but it is probably safer just to ask here if all your trucks do the same?

Mine operates the same.

This is completely normal. You change the magnetic field of the Hall effect sensor in the handle, and this wakes up the RF Hub, which in turn will start looking for a valid fob. When it doesn’t find one, or no other action is taken, it’ll go back to sleep.

I'm pretty sure mine does that even if you get near the cab with the FOB as well.

In fact, I think it's also happened when I've been near without the FOB and had my (paired) phone in my pocket.

OK. Thanks for that information. I had noticed a few things like that but did not include in my description in fear of seeming nuts! I may still be, but at least not in this case. Things like it waking up and going to sleep a few times when I was sitting in the truck reading the iDash manual. Almost like if I repositioned myself a bit, the truck would notice the FOB moving and remind me about how to start the engine. Or, just walking by the truck at night to unload something from the bed and I would see through the back window, the uConnect screen wake up briefly. When in the truck and it happens, I also hear a sort of static click through the speakers even with the volume all the way down. Kind of spooky. I am used to my old truck where unless you turn the key, the most that happened is the dome light came on if you opened the door!

Everything you describe sounds like what I've experienced. I wouldn't call it perfectly "normal" but it's what the darn thing does. It's almost a bit annoying at times.

Surprised me how many times it woke up when the first time I washed it. LOL

Ive heard stories in the past of the keys being stored to close to the vehicle causing a dead battery. (Even if the keys are in the house and the truck is in the garage. Proximity is something to keep in mind.)

Also heard stories of man-in-the-middle hacks leading to stolen vehicles if the FOB and vehicle are communicating.

Would keeping the fob in a faraday pouch help this problem, too much tech, could probably drive away with a joy stick and internet access

That's where I saw several videos, they were advertising pouches.

One was in the UK. Keys hanging in the garage, car in driveway, they hacked the RF comms and drove the car away.

If you read the reviews for the Faraday pouches they don't seem to function very long despite just being used to store keys on the kitchen table. A few months for most.
