I have noticed that if my truck is locked and "asleep" if I walk up and grab the door handle with the FOB out of range, I can see through the window that the uConnect screen wakes up and the "Press Brake and Push..." to start message light comes up on the instrument display. After 15 or 20 seconds, it goes dark again. It does this no matter if the doors are locked or not. If the doors are unlocked and I get in and try to start, then it notifies that the FOB is not detected. This may be normal behavior but since my last truck was 20+ years old, I don't have first hand experience with this sort of thing. I would have expected nothing to happen from just touching the door handle when the FOB is not within range? I suppose I could keep and eye out for another late model Ram and grab its door handle while looking in the window, but it is probably safer just to ask here if all your trucks do the same?
