What about the components within the engine that come into direct contact with that virgin oil as it is added via the valve cover? Is there no concern that contamination from virgin oil could potential do any detrimental harm to those components? Not every vehicle offers a direct-to-sump fill port?

If, big if, that oil is used to lube anything those components are all splash lubed, as most the oil at that point is just draining to the pan to be pressurized, filtered, and distributed to the tight tolerance components.

What size contaminants in the virgin oil have you seen?

For numbers I’d have to go back and try to find the data, it’s been a looong time.

Here is a sampling I found on BITO

“I can't release the brand names and individual results just yet, but the cleanest motor oil on the list was 19/18/17 and the dirtiest was 23/21/16. All were taken from unopened jugs, one gallon or smaller.”

All using ISO 4406 which has a diesel lube standard of 17/16/13

Some interesting points in this article, especially where they discuss new oil being the dirtiest oil in a plant after the plant implements some cleanup procedures.

It’s not all about lube oil, but still a good read.
