The fuel injector pump on our 2001 Ram 2500 diesel failed. The repair shop strongly recommended modifying the system to put a filter and water separator at the tank in order to ensure clean fuel gets to the pump. In doing so they say they have to remove the running board on the bed under the fuel filler. Wife is furious as she loves this truck and doesn't want it spoiled. Is there an easy way to put the board back on?

Had a 2001 myself. When my injector pump went out I went with a pump from Blue Chip diesel and the AirDog water and fuel filter lift pump set up. Worked great and never another issue.

Find a different shop that knows what they are doing there is never a need to remove the running boards…. These pump/filter housings have brackets that put them under the bed side. Or do like I did and use the in tank pump and the block mounted pump together and don't add aftermarket trash that you have to special order parts for. At least my setup if I have a pump fail I can get one at any parts store anywhere usually. And cheaper than the aftermarket ones.
