Did Ya'll Get This Letter Too? - PARTICULATE MATTER SENSOR

Called the dealer today for my upcoming appointment and he said no parts available for the Y43 recall. UAW strike in the parts warehouses. So no parts available unless they can source from another dealer and he said it was unlikely they would let them have them with not being able to replace them. I told him don’t go out of the way looking for them.

My understanding is that it is there to monitor the health of the DPF, not the soot loading. So it won’t trigger a regen, but should trigger a DPF fault if the DPF isn’t working like it should.
Correct. But it also comes with extra programming.

Hi, can you send us a private message with your VIN and dealer info? We would like to look into this for you.

I have a similar problem - They can get the parts but are telling me the ATF is back ordered.

Brain damage - I need the transmission done. Already got the Y43.
I’ve got to get that done also. You can probably imagine what I thought when I started to check the fluid level in my transmission the first time and pulled that short dipstick out.

I appreciate the offer but I would rather deal with the dealership myself to get this resolved. I’m going to go by there and see if they can call me when they are able to source the parts. I’m retired and my calendar is clean.
But I will reach out to you if they don’t want to be forthcoming.

Well Joe, I would let Ram kick the dealers arse whether your retired or not. I'm retired as well which means we have less time to waste not more. ;)

Just made an appointment for frequent regens on my truck (once every 100 mi or so), They told me they wouldn't have the parts to complete the Y43, but it seems like that wouldn't address the root cause anyways- just reading into this now.

I'm sure they won't be able to do anything about the regens but at least I will be on record for reporting the problem if they ever develop a fix, or if there's ever a class action lawsuit

It's doubtful it will ever go to 0%. I have only seen under 10% twice, once after towing 7 hours and then going into a 24 hour regen. I also shut the truck off within minutes of the regen completion (it showed ~35% until shutdown), and the second time was after a stationary regen. It normally goes to ~35% at the completion of a regen, but will be lower at the next restart.
Since you monitor pretty closely, have you noted a particular highway speed / rpm that seems to generate the best conditions for passive regeneration to occur when operating the truck unloaded at highway speed?

I made an appointment for the 16th of this month to have my truck looked at. I’m not getting any P2459 codes but I’m concerned that my distance between regeneration cycles has progressively been getting worse, and I’m seeing 12-25% soot load on the EVIC DPF gauge within 40 miles of a regeneration cycle completing. To me it sounds like either I have a partially plugged DPF (36k miles), a false or inaccurate pressure reading, or my truck is producing more g/l of soot per mile than it should be.

That's what I'm experiencing, dealer has told me a bad DPF sensor, and it is ordered, but with the strike, they no idea when the sensor will arrive

When is the last time the two of you that are having this problem went to the dealer for a different update/tsb or service?

I’m scheduled in on the 16th for them to look at the truck due to the steady decline in time between regenerations. The truck has been back to the dealership about 17-18 times over the past 22-23 months of ownership so I’m pretty sure all the ECM / PCM flashes are up to date. Although I can’t get the current flash because they have yet to complete Y43. If they flash it without the sensor in place it’ll likely trip a constant “No communication with PM sensor” code.

I’m talking about prior to having these issues. My truck had 3 noted services done on it prior to me buying it. They were all listed as miscellaneous and I haven’t been able to find out what they did. One could have been a PDI but it should have been noted as such in the records. There has been a lot of people having these issues lately. Just trying to figure out if it’s something in the programming or something common failing mechanically. Mine is doing well so far but I only have 6300 miles on it.

I’ve heard multiple possible explanations along those lines. Not definitives though. Faulty MAF sensors, faulty DOC’s, tuning issues, etc.

Your correct, the Y43 will not help with the frequent regen issue. I've had mine in to the dealer 3 times for the frequent regen issue since having the Y43 performed. They tell me they are working with Stellantis to resolve the frequent regen problem. I don't know every thing that they've done, but I do know they've changed the EGR, checked pressures, etc. Last week I left it with them for 2 days and they told me they are now trying to get approval to change the injectors. They called me Monday of this week and said they received approval for injectors and would call me when they receive all the parts (maybe next week). Still waiting for them to perform the 71A transmission recall as well. Hopefully they can do both the next time I bring it in.
