I have a 2022 Ram 3500 DRW on order as well. I ordered it with the big motor, aisin transmission, 4:10 gears, auto level suspension, the whole 9 yards... capable of towing over 34K pounds. I ordered the truck 4 monts ago because I knew I'd be buying a BIG 5th wheel. The New Horizons 5th wheel I just ordered may weigh as much as 28K loaded. Now people are telling me I should have gone with a Ram 5500. Any thoughts???

Me personally I do the 75% rule.. so your max is 34k and 75% of that is 25.5k, you are more in the 84 to 85% range with the 28k. I did the same thing when I got my 5th wheel. So 3500 on order to get back to the 75% range for me.

May weigh is a loose term....imo you're fine....

The trucks are built with safety factors in mind so if it says 34k rated it would be built to take 25-30% more at least so you are more than fine

It will pull the weight fine, but the truck will be overloaded at the ~25k empty weight you mentioned in the other thread.

Pin weight will be mid 5000's at the least and your payload will likely be in the low 5000s... 5100-5300 max.

My payload in 5750 on my dually, and that would leave me precious little room for stuff in the truck. However, a 3500 dually HO pulls like a mule! I've seen way worse overload situations in the campgrounds than what you are considering

My payload is the same. Since this is a custom build I will speak with New Horizons and see if they can keep the pin weight under 5K lbs.

Isn’t the 34k rating for gooseneck? I believe it’s quite a bit less using 5th wheel hitch. I would be nervous using a gooseneck adaptor on the 5th wheel too, but that’s just me.

The 34k is for gooseneck or 5th. Pull point is same. They only de rate for bumper pull.

But yes. You would be insane to use a gooseneck adapter for that much weight.

Rated to 30K for 5th wheel. Anything higher than 30K is GN.

I believe so, yes.

Just for reference, from the 2021 towing guide: https://www.ramtrucks.com/content/d..._HD-3500-D2_Trailer-Tow-Weight-Chart_MY21.pdf

Only the 2wd Regular cab DRW HO MaxTow is rated to tow 37K.

For trims not shown, take the GCWR less the curb weight of the truck to get your max tow.
GVWR less curb weight is payload. The charts are base starting points only using estimated tow ready weights shown in #7 below.

CCLB DRW 4.10 HO GCWR is 43,000.
If the curb weight of the truck is 9,500K, that leaves 33,500 you can pull. 5th wheel Trailer tow tops out at 30K.
