I don’t have much, but I’d be concerned with a straight run across the hinge as well. For longevity of the insulation and conductor, would it make more sense to come across the door to the hinge, drop down a few inches then continue down your yellow line (picture a “s” shape run) to the bumper mounted plug? The only reason I mention it is so it does not bind every time you open and close the door, and allows the wire to function as a “hinge”. If you notice most car doors run their wiring in a similar fashion to prevent binding.

If you do go straight across, maybe a rubber accordion style boot will suit your application well.

You could do something like they do on the Wrangler tailgate. The wires are run through that fabric strap.

I like the rubber boot and/or the fabric strap.
My install is pretty basic and has held up well for the past two years.

Camera in housing mounted with supplied screws at proper location where tailgate camera used to be.

Hole (had to be large enough for connector to pass through) sealed with wire ran towards hinge side, with keeper. Added a piece of Gorilla tape, which is looking a bit weary.

Notch cut in frame to keep wire from being pinched, wire ran back to floor, and same sized hole drilled and sealed.

Excess wire coiled, zip-tied and connected.

As stated, not the fanciest install, but has worked flawlessly for past two years.

This has me wondering if it would be possible to put an OEM camera in the pictured kit and run a splitter/switch to select between the tailgate and a trailer? or if thats even possible......
