Is anyone else having an issue with the dealership using the 2018’s oil spec 15w40 for their 2019? I have had my oil changed twice and have questioned the dealership both times. They are using T6 15w40 full syn when the manual and Cummins both state 5w40 for the 2019’s as the specs have changed. Each time the dealership has told me that the 15w40 is correct even when I showed them the manual.

Here is some info that might help:

Thank you. I think what is bothering me is the dealership is only going by what is in their system for the 2018’s and not even acknowledging the manual for the 2019’s. I realize that the weight is the same.

All things are not equal, though, as compared to prior generation Cummins. These have roller hydraulic tappets for the first time ever, not solid tappets like 1989-2018. You can try to contact Cummins directly, and ask. I will not be running 15W40 in mine.

Thats irritating - and part of the reason I do my own servicing.
You should find another mechanic who will use the correct fluids.

I did contact Cummins and they specified that 5w40 is the recommended full synthetic for the 2019’s.

That's interesting. I called Cummins Canada when I was in search of the specifics for the factory fill for the 19s. They would not divulge anything. "Call FCA", they said.
Notwithstanding, and here as well, the local dealer was adamant that 15W-40 was the go to oil for the 19s. I suggested they might wanna have a peek at the OM for the new trucks.

This is from my manual.
The warning below is for low viscosity at low temps but I would not exceed 10w30 in the heat of summer either. The engineers must have lowered the viscosity requirement for a reason.
5w40 Synth all year for me.

Indeed and makes one ponder why the manufacturer doesn't just fill them with that. Especially in trucks destined for the northerly parts of the continent.

Because an fca lawyer told an fca bean counter that it would be acceptable ‍♂️
