Def system cleaning additive

I never run my DEF tank dry or even below 1/2 for that matter.
Most important, don't use crap DEF!

(disclaimer, I do add fuel additives on every fill up though, hotshot everyday, but that is diff animal)
DEF is DEF! Never heard of "crap DEF". Care to elaborate?

No DEF issues with my 2019, 52,000+ miles, no additive, and have been using Walmart Super Tech DEF since my 2014 EcoDiesel and now my 2500. When the tank gets down to a quarter tank I add a jug which brings it to three quarters.

Here is a potentially dumb question… how often do you refill… reading what you’ve said here it makes sense to keep the tank full, but logic tells me that I should fill up once the level gets low enough to accept a full jug…
I add a 2.5 gallons when I see the dash gauge between 1/4 & 1/8 tank, one time did not add any until I got a warning it was almost empty

Most of what I’ve read is that the def injector crystallization occurs more frequently if you aren’t working the truck under moderate to heavy loads, and at higher speeds… I would imagine that running hot shot everyday means that work your truck sufficiently, where as a recreational hauler, like me, could expect to see these issues more often.
I will disagree that the def injector crystallization occurs more frequently if you aren’t working the truck under moderate to heavy loads, due to a spinal injury last year my truck could sit for 3 or more weeks and then the driving was mostly stop & go city drives with a occasional hwy drive when I saw DPF reach 25%, to date I have not had one problem with crystallization.

That’s good to know. I read complaints every day from people with issues, but people who don’t have issues have nothing to complain about. So we get little feedback about the number of trucks with no problems.

Probably referring to expired DEF or packaging that is beat up/suspect to contamination.

That’s part of the reason I generally buy it from the pump. Supply is generally assumed to be fresh when buying from higher volume fuel stations. Contamination is a concern, but I wipe the nozzle off inside and out before pumping.

Big Box home centers around me like to keep it in the entry foyers under blasting gas heaters and large windows that cause sun bleached boxes. Theres a definition of crap def!

Id still use it

Does not surprise me.
The stuff im running right now is out of a 250gal tote thats been in the sun for a year it still looks clear and it still has the proper concentrate as per my tests with my refractometer. Best part was it was free lol I'm on my second tank full since I undeleted the truck.

Why un-delete? Are you guys starting emission testing up north?

What do you mean starting? There has always been for commercial or over 4500kg lol. It has always been illegal here but now they are actually setting up road blocks looking for deleted trucks and transports more and more.

Wow ok. When the US made it a lot more difficult everyone said “gotta go to Canada” so here I was thinking you guys had it made.

Nope we have it bad too but up until last year they were not as aggressive to catch us, when Trudeau is gone things may get better.

I need to find a plugged DPF for cheap to clear out and install lol

I purchased a downpipe back for $400 back over the winter. They’re out there.
