def fluid

I've had a few times where someone filled def tank with diesel or water or whatever. Codes came up for bad quality def cant remember. Just washed the tank out and filled it with new def. Was gtg.

I agree with what others have posted, I would empty out the tank, drop it, clean it with distilled water, clean the injector and put fresh def fluid in before I’d fork over 8k.

thanks i agree

Another scum bag dealer trying to take advantage of you. I would request they test a sample in front of you and also request a sample to have tested outside of your dealership.

Do not pay to have this fixed. While you are waiting for your test sample results drain your tank and clean it with distilled water. Remove your DEF injector and clean the nozzle with distilled water too. By flushing the system you might be able to save it.
thanks i agree

How does the dealer know the DEF is bad? I would demand a sample of the DEF and send it to an independent lab. I think your dealer is WRONG. Worth the effort for 8K
thanks

I think there is just a sock type screen on the def pump that you could clean off.

If you're not into working on this type of thing yourself, at least take the truck to a reputable independent shop and tell them what you were told and that you think you're being scammed. Get their opinion. I bet it will be different from what the dealership told you.

I agree with all the other comments on the simple flush and fill before going any deeper. And certainly not $8,000.

A steamer works good for cleaning the system. It breaks up the crystals.
