A couple years ago I knew someone that had a vehicle pull out in front of them and there was a collision. The driver claimed a snow bank blocked his view. The dash cam video showed that the snow bank was about a foot high and you could see the driver and his vehicle no problem. Snow bank sure didn't block their view! Just one example of why a dash cam can be a good thing.
I had a woman claim I rear ended her in the car wash and damaged her car and injured her neck and back. My dash cam showed that I did not hit her car, and her car exited the car wash with no damage.
My brother had a guy in a new F150 change lanes into him, brother's grille guard totaled the side of the Ford. The Ford driver claimed my brother crossed into his lane. Brother's dash cam proved he was a liar.
Nephew had a guy run a red light and hit him. The guy claimed he had a green light. Nephew's dash cam proved the nephew had the green light.
There was a forum case where the ops truck was damaged at the dealership. His dash cam proved the dealership did it.
Yes, they are worth it. My youngest was in an accident with his brothers' car, a Lexus GS-F limited production model. He was going through an intersection as the light turned from yellow to red. An oncoming car began a left hand turn into his lane and caught him between the driver and rear door spinning him around 180°. The dashcam showed he had entered the intersection before the light turned red. The officer said he was the primary car at that point in the intersection and the left turning car should have waited for him to clear the intersection before commencing the turn. My son did not get cited in the accident and the Lexus was totaled by the insurance company.
