I'm getting ready to order a truck and it's come down to a Ram/6.7 or a Ford/7.3 (gas).

The 7.3 is winning in my head because the emissions **** is driving me crazy on the current diesels. I don't tow daily, but do every weekend. May miss one out of 4 weeks. I live out west where mountains are always part of it.

The EGR sooting up and sending crunchy **** into my intake and clogged DPF is the thought because I'd be using this truck for daily/around town driving as well.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone on here have personal experience with deleted newish 6.7s? The lack of quality tunes is the only thing holding me back on that front. Just wondering what others have done. Feel free to take the discussion to private message if you'd like.

There are plenty of great tunes And the only issue with the emmisions on these trucks is DEF freezing so if your not in the frozen land of Canada you should be fine running it emissions intact… just for reference i drive 14KM daily to work and no emissions issues other than frozen DEF in -40°

I daily drive my 2021, and tow my camper 1x a month. Currently at 8400 miles, and zero issues to date. It regens when needed and performs perfectly

Only just over 10K on my 2020 HO and no issues.

Mostly just tows in the summer but I also don't DD it. DIA parking once a month but have been using the old car more.

What are you towing? If it’s of substantial weight, I would say the diesel may make sense. The trouble with DD’ing a modern diesel is that you don’t run it hard enough to keep the emission systems clean. But towing weekly and in mountains should solve that issue.

I only tow ~10k. However, it has a large frontal area (wind resistance) and we have substantial grades.

I'm going to put an order in today and am 90% sure I'm going with the 7.3. Thx everyone!

Going to catch flack for this being a Ram forum, but Ford did it right with a big block pushrod V8 motor. If I were to go with a gas HD, that would probably be it.

Enjoy the god awful fuel economy though :p

Fuel economy was (is?) one of my worries w/ the 7.3. However, I've done a bit of napkin-ing on it. With the price of diesel (over the past 2 years), it's a wash. Either truck will be a long wait so I'll have a while to sit back and think about and second guess myself. Thanks guys.

Well, it's still a great truck, and combined with that 10 speed, and hopefully some good gearing, it will pull like a mule. There's always trade offs anyhow, diesel pulls better and is more relaxed on a long trip, but fuel and maintenance is higher. Gas is cheaper, but it will consume a lot of it. Either way, you will have a great rig!

Depends where you are but diesel it normally cheaper than gas here

I hope they have the problems with the new 10-speed worked out.
I heard they had, but time will definitely tell. I would hate to have to replace one of those

The emission problems are over hyped . When you read forums you read about problems or ways to improve what you have. When you consider the thousands of 6.7 Diesels on the roads relative to emission related problems it is a relatively small amount . My 14 has about a 100 k on it . one false code on a def issue in 8 yrs ! You just have to keep information in perspective of what you are reading . My 20 turns 2 today one small DPF issue when new . Just saying .

Where is that? I have not seen diesel lower than gasoline in decades here in the USA.

While average US prices for Diesel are higher at most times, they are sometimes lower regionally due to demand. Here in Colorado I've seen diesel lower than gas at times over the last few years.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "decades" because through 2009, diesel was consistently below regular gas at least in the summer months, if not the better part (or all) of the entire calendar year. So maybe one decade. :)

So true, I've had 4 emission equipped Cummins, and 1 ecodiesel, and only ever had 1 emission code on the ecodiesel, never one on a Cummins

Meh. Revmax will badmouth it until they figure out what parts they can build and push for stupid money as "upgrades" then still badmouth what a POS it is in "stock" form unless and until you put in their $1,500 drums.

I had emissions issues right off the lot. one 3wk stint at the dealer, was enough to move me in another direction. I feel alot of that was due to being a new engine, but I couldn't be down a month at a time for emissions issues trying to get through the umpteen recall circuses.
