Cummins Power Finally Comes To The Power Wagon

Ya I think the concept zipped through the Design Department and went straight to the Slap Stickers On …er Marketing Department.
Honestly I think it’s just a way of simplifying the lineups while also pleasing the marketing folks. Most purchasers (and sales people) can’t tell the difference between a Rebel and a PW, because they look almost identical and have a big overlap in components.

I’d bet what was previously the gas rebel will be gone now and the Cummins will be the only PW with towing capacity. Honestly it’s probably what they should have done instead of making the Rebel in the first place.

I feel they did away with the front winch to make enough room for the Cummins. Knowing Ram, they will address the winch at a later time, but for now they just want to start selling them. My fear with people that want a Power Wagon with a Cummins for four wheeling will be doing a lot of stop and go on the trails in-which would not be good for the Cummins and the Issues they already have with the exhaust system these Diesels have.

The turbo IC has always been an issue for Ram regarding a hidden winch. It's not a matter of fitment because Vice Designs did it. IMHO, it comes down to unobstructed airflow for the IC and the potential power loss.

Maybe they'll get things worked out eventually but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Yeah, the engineer said it gets no lift. It rides on standard HD suspension, not PW suspension. So basically the lockers and sway bar are neat but otherwise it's not a PW at all. They should have just kept it as a Rebel trim only and add the front locker and sway bar and call it a day.

Best comment in here so far. Could have left it as an “upgraded” Rebel. I’m not mad at what they did though. Could be awesome in the trails.

It’s simply a different flavor of PW, just like the Rebel.

The factory lockers f/r would be great to have. After running softer and removed away-bars the disconnecting swaybar is just MEH… I prefer the ride/handling of no swaybar on the current 4th gen suspension.

My wife’s rig has a disconnecting swaybar and it’s great, as long as we stay below 18 mph which is often pretty slow on some dirt roads and the ride gets so much rougher once it’s connected.

Even with the diesel and lockers it’s not a rig I’d realistically ever own, the short bed seals the deal.

Maybe lockers will make their way as a stand alone option for LWB trucks.

I second that, It would be great if Ram offered F and R lockers as a freestanding option on a LWB.

Powerwagon purists can't stand it. "You can't call it a powerwagon. It's too heavy, no winch, suspension too stiff, people just want the sticker, etc." Meanwhile, tick, tick, tick, is that a Hemi I hear? All the usual suspects that are daily fixated about payload ratings and what a truck can and can't do will once again spiral into endless confusion.

The suspension modifications on these trucks are so cheap and easy. Common parts catalog for 12+ years of 4th gen means gently used mall crawler parts are easy to find deals on. Always better to buy and build your own truck. No "package" will be optimized for all needs.

Begs the question if the Rebel will still exist.

Will the “base” gas PW get regular 2500 suspension and 10kGVWR, and then offer the gas model a “suspension upgrade” package with the reduced GVWR suspension kit?

I doubt the Rebel will exist at all.
