Cummins HO Squeaky Belt or Pulley

I sincerely regret to hear your sentiments here, @mawidc. Please do not hesitate to follow up with me via private message to provide your case number so I can look into this further for you.

Can anyone tell me if a belt that was replaced about 4 weeks ago should look like this?IMG_4018.jpeg

I took another picture of the belt this morning after driving it to see if there was something that might have gotten on the belt. Doesn’t appear to be the case. I also can faintly hear the original sound again. It isn’t loud enough or consistent enough to have the dealership hear it so I am not sure if it will do me any good to bring that part to their attention. Thoughts??5555F35F-6374-4DE7-9836-97229E26C793.jpeg

That sorta narrows the list of culprits down to whatever runs on the back side of the belt.

I took my truck to the dealership this morning and the shop foreman said he isn’t sure if the “stuff” in the picture is abnormal. He rubbed his finger on the surface of the belt and said everything seems normal. He asked me to bring it back on Monday morning to have his diesel techs look at it....

Here's the belt that came off my 04.5 5.9L after 14 years and 65K. I only changed it because I put on a vacuum pump for a Banks exhaust brake and needed the longer belt.

Ram returned to the dealership again this morning. Diesel tech came out and acknowledged significant wear and fraying on both sides of the belt. They like me are at a loss because they have done everything from replacing the belt multiple times, multiple pulleys, re-aligning all pulleys, etc. They are reaching out to a regional rep again for consultation and hoping he will be able to go and take a look for himself. I asked the service rep at what point are they going to waive the white flag of defeat. He responded, we aren’t going to do that. It is our job to fix it and will continue until they are told otherwise from above or I stop showing up. Again, I think the local guys are trying and certainly appreciate everything but darn, here I am again in the same situation for the 8th time and no truck...

Sounds like the Reg.Rep from FCA needs to consult with a Rep from Cummins and get this taken care of! Pronto!!!! This is just awful!

Update: I called the dealership to get a status update. Local mech got in contact with next level guy. He was directed to change out the fan bearing / pulley, fan support and for the 4th time a new belt. Was told yesterday 10 March 20 that parts were on order and would be in today 11 March 20. Only one of the three parts came in. Remainder are scheduled to be in tomorrow and should be put back together in no time.... Famous last words. Last night I called FCA and while on the phone a rep tried calling me. I didn’t recognize the number and didn’t switch over. Wouldn’t you know it, they were calling me. I have called FCA countless times between yesterday and today and with much disappointment no answer or call back...

I also noticed the same noise on my truck, not that it bothers me that much, but it's there.
After reading all 4 pages of this forum, it sounds like Chrysler / Fiat uses a weak / defective factory belt.
Has anyone try to replace the factory belt with a "Gates Belt" ? Or equivalent.
If the noise get worst on my truck: I will swap the factory belt with a better aftermarket belt all in the comfort of my own driveway, before taking the truck to any dealer.

When they replaced my belt and tensioner the tech told me the MOPAR belts were made by Gates. You would think Cummins would use the BEST parts at the factory when they are the ones building these 10-12k motors....:-/

I am not surprised that Gates makes belt for Mopar, obviously Mopar does not manufacture belts in house.

What I think happens is when a big manufacturer such as Fiat / Chrysler has a huge account with a subcontractor like Gates: they engineer their exclusive product at per their own specifications. Saving as small as a small fraction behind the decimal point = incredible profits by the end of the year. Not just Chrysler / Fiat, but all business are operating alike, if possible.
By purchasing that belt outside the Mopar circle (even if it is from the same manufacturer) chances are that it could be made of a better quality overall.

I could be very wrong, but I personally would give it the benefit of the doubt.

I have the same belt chirp issue and tried to get a Gates green HD belt to replace the factory belt. I didn’t see the year model of my truck on their website and the factory part number cross match did come back with any results. I then contacted Gates asking if they had a belt to replace factory part number. About a week went by and they sent an email stating they ordered two mopar part number for my year for both single and dual alternator and they were indeed a different sizes than 2018 and earlier, which I assume is width. They said it would take them about six months before they get belts for 2019 6.7l ho out for purchase, and that was February.

"Continental" has belts available for 2019 RAM 3500 diesels, selling from AutoZone online ...….

Update... I received my truck back last Thursday from the 8th repair. The placed the belt for the 4th time, fan support, and bearing associated with the fan. Things seemed to be okay over the weekend. I started the truck this morning and the noise was back with a vengeance. As loud as any other time. I went into the dealership for the 9th time today and they ALL were scratching their heads. One of the mechs said well the only things we have replaced are the alternator, AC pump, the actual fan, and I think one other piece of equipment. I hope no one else has to go through this....

I hope Ram doesn't do what that did to me today, the Area Service Manager has told the dealer No More Repairs on my truck including the leaking rear diesel fuel filter that has never been changed. I filed my paperwork today with an attorney for lemon law on this toilet since they are now refusing to basic warranty work now.
