Cruise Control While Towing

I use cruise control while towing all the time. Better MPG, consistent speed and more relaxing drive. We tow in the western US frequently where traffic is less so it’s a no brainer.

Do you use the gear limiter while in cruise control? Lock out 6th gear for example.

I put it in D and when I get to speed I set the cruise control. My travel trailer is about 6K lbs, once at speed gear shifting is rare.

No just set tow/haul it does what it needs to do i put my evic on the multi gauge page and keep an eye on temps they are always where the need to be unless im plowing they start to get warm

I have always used "cruise" when towing. It makes for a much more relaxing drive. Obviously, when in traffic it is off. I will be interested to experiment with the ACC on the new truck when I get it.

I like using CC when towing and out of traffic. I usually kick it off when approaching large grades or sharper curves. Other than that I just let it do it’s thing in tow/haul mode. I usually drop it a few MPH when approaching steep down grades but still leave it in CC if traffic allows.

I find the adaptive cruise works fairly well while towing when traffic isn't too heavy.

I am planning to take a couple trips towing my camper next month. I have a 19 Ram classic Eco Diesel. I was curious if anyone uses cruise control towing. My last truck a GMC would down shift at the least little grade and red line the motor. I have never towed with a gear limiter or diesel. Is it safe to use cruise or should I drive without cruise.
I always tow with cruise

2-Horse Slant Trailer w/ Tack Room & 2 full size quarter horses. Trailer: 3,000lbs + Equine: ~2,200lbs = ~5,200lbs total weight

Midwest to South Texas driving with virtually no hills... however if steep hills are encountered, is it best to cancel Cruise Control... or just let it eat?

Growing up my dad always said to never use Cruise Control while towing anything heavier than a couple 4-wheelers on a light single axle trailer

I'm young and this truck is my first pickup independently purchased since an old hand-me-down from my dad at 16.
I have just purchased my Power Wagon and now have learned, thanks to the forum, that my towing max is less than eluded to by the sales force at my dealer. So, the issue is I haul a 10,100 lb water trailer about 6 times per month and my tow max is 10,5XX. I have experience absolutely no problems using cruse control. I even called MoPar and asked if being that close to the max and using cruise would be a problem, their response was absolutely no way. I do use the tow/haul mode and I tow only about 15 miles each trip, no gear limit, and no steep hills, but do have grade changes that do not require a gear drop especially when starting out from 5-6 stops and starts from a standstill (or 90 degree corner) per trip with half of those towing a full load. The maximum posted speed is only 45 mph with a lot of the trip on cruise control at 30-40 mph I would be confident with using cruise control unless I was up in mountainous country with several steep grades. Just my two cents worth...

We always tow with cruise on. Sometimes kick it off if approaching steep hill in order to get a run at it but, other than that it stays on most of the time. It actually acts a little like an exhaust brake going down hills so is a winner all round (just need to watch RPM and brake when prudent!)

I dont even kick it off for taking a run just hit the throttle and when the speed slows down towards the top of the hill i let my foot off and cruise will keep going without having to hit resume

Did you miss the two pages of replies above your post?

LOL.

I love when these pop up and I can go look at past posts and use some of the mod tools

I've always been a diesel fan but I now own my 1st diesel which is a 2017 ram 2500. It's all stock and I definitely want to put a programmer on it and egr delete with an exhaust. All I want out of this truck which is my daily driver is to tow my 9500lb camper...I want to get some hp and torque as well as fuel economy back that the government emissions has takin away from the truck. I dont care to see how much hp I can get or drag race the truck or anything like that. I just want that egr off and that blue def out of there haha I hate driving it knowing I could be getting better fuel economy and some extra power to help me out with my tow and driving around town. Any suggestions on what programmer to get. I dont need the top of the line bc I dont plan to build the truck. I just need some pointers and suggestions!!! Yall are the pros!!! Thank all of you!!!

Use cruise control anytime i can, love the adaptive cruise, towing or not. 2022 power wagon
