Considering RWD?

My friend towing his 5th wheel toy hauler got stuck at the trailhead for the Coral Pink sand dunes where we were going to camp. He switched it to 4wd and was able to get out. He even had AT tires already. Not sure my previous Titan would have been able to pull the truck and trailer out of that sand.

I had similar situation where I was taking 5th wheel out to a ranch on a dirt road - the road had a 1 ft or so berm on each side form the road being graded over the years. The gate to the ranch was tight with trees lining the drive so I had to back th trailer up the bank on the opposite side so i could hit straight on. When the end of the toyhauler cam down the bank it dug in to the bank and stopped me. I tried to get it goin in 2WD but no luck...

Had to use 4HI or I would have been needing some help for sure.

I had to use 4wd just to get up my icy driveway backing up yesterday. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten out for several hours later. I had a similar problem years ago on an icy mountain road with 2wd. Didn't make it to our cabin. That's when I decided to never buy a 2wd again.

I'll try and keep this short; my current 2020 Tundra is maxed out on the rear axle with my 33' holiday trailer so I'm looking at 3/4t gas trucks (long beds because I prefer the look and my kayak will fit better). I really don't need 4WD at all but don't want a truck that has that sort of sagging front look non 4WD trucks sometimes have. I wanted to ask if there was a kit that altered RWDs to sit like 4WDs?

For context I'm looking at pretty budget builds on a 2500 CC LB 6.4 in black, 4WD puts me in a tradesman no chrome with cloth upgrade but then RWD and a bit extra gets a Big Horn with Night edition. I'm trying to avoid the chrome front and keep to $46 to $48k after I drop 6% below invoice.

Thanks in advance and if there's anyone with a photo of a 2022 CC LB Tradesman in black without the chrome package that would be killer.

2500 Long Bed 4x2 is going to have rake of all rakes... Just saying.

IF you want some creature comforts your route is fine...

If you want a truck in the sense of plain jane get the 4x4 in your config, tradesman black without the chrome package (poor mans sport) and 4.10s

I wanted a plain jane but needed a short bed for parking reasons at night.

You can’t go wrong with a 4x4. Don’t need it most of the time, but the several times I have needed it I was sure glad I had it.

Was out at King of the Hammers one year with my CCSB F250 4x. Was in 2WD crusing around and headed up the big hill to get to the top of Chocolate Thunder to watch the race. Got about 3/4 of the way up in 2WD then had to stop as a truck was coming down the hill. Went to start back up and started digging in. Put the truck in 4hi and motored on up the hill.
Without it, I'd had to back down the hill and start over.

Thanks forum; I think I'll suck it up and get the 4WD tradesman and maybe keep an eye out for some take off Night edition wheels.

I think you are making the right choice. We have had to help pull out 2WD truck with trailers several times in the desert (open area camping) and even at a campground once due to wet grass and a slight hill. Night Edition wheels pop up for sale pretty often.

I have a cargo trailer that only weighs about 3000#. I store it at the side of my house, and this involves backing up a relatively steep section of concrete driveway. My little EcoDiesel used to scream and rev pretty hard back it up, until I learned about throwing it into low range 4WD.

The difference is insane. The surface is clean dry concrete, so who would have thought of using 4WD? But those 4 wheels all putting traction to the ground just push the trailer up the hill with zero fuss and very low revs.

You can buy a tradesman and make a fake night edition for around 2 grand with wheels

I bought night edition headlights and taillights for less than a grand and bought black wheels. Little black paint and some emblems… boom night edition.

Shoot for the level 2 tradesman and get the 8.4 No nav and you’re not far from a bighorn

For now all I plan is an Outlaw premium grillguard/bumper and some fog lights... Have some Black Oaks from another truck I just sold.

eventually buy the midnight emblems and probly get some midnight take off rims but no rush... just bought a house and doing some work to it before moving in... Wife to do list is priority for now.
