Considering a 2022 L3 PW

I have long been drawn to the looks and amazing functionality of the Power Wagon. I currently have a 2020 6.2L AT4 1/2 ton. It has served me very well, not a single problem at 25k miles. I tow a 7000LB travel trailer about 6 times/year, and the 6.2L lets me pull up the Eisenhower at 70mph rather easily. Any Colorado Power Wagon owners pull up the same pass with a similar trailer? I assume the Ram could handle this load just as easily?

I don't fully understand why Rams seem to be so heavily discounted in the current market. 10-11% off MSRP seems standard on an order. I did a little better on my Sierra, but that arrived just ahead of Covid days. So my used 1/2 ton can become a fully loaded L3 PW for about 9k. MPG is what it is, cost of doing business for such a capable machine. I don't really care about the added expense, but the shorter range will require more fill-ups (my Sierra has a small 24 gallon tank, but I average 18-20MPG in mixed driving). I wish these wagons had larger tanks as an option. Only other issue for me is that bed height... I'm very vertically challenged at 5'-7", and climbing in that bed is a massive chore. I don't care for that optional drop down step, so I would probably change to an after market rear bumper with corner steps. On this point, I think GM has the clear cut winner on both the factory rear bumper and multi-tailgate, and it is what I would most miss from my current truck.

Uconnect 5 - I definitely don't love reading the thread on this system and what seems to be continual glitches with it for many owners, even on 2022 models. Like most I assume, I hate visiting the dealer for anything outside of routine service. Can anyone elaborate on your current model PW reliability?

Thanks all, great forum here.

I think even a side step bumper is still going to be too high.

I have a 75th AE PW and ordered the bed group of spray in bed liner, led bed lights and the side step. It's a heavy duty step, better than the AMP step, and it very usable. I'm glad I ordered it. And with teh tailgate down, its easier to get in the bed than I thing a side step bumper would be as it drops down and out to the side of the bumper.

Geez my dealership certainly isn’t 10-11% off mrsp. I’ve been waiting until January to see if they offer any dealers but right now it’s mrsp or more.

Don't bother, buy a new Chevy / GMC so we can laugh at how ugly it is...... LOL I really don't know what you are looking for here... If anyone buys a 75k plus truck to take out and pound the piss out of off road... well, you may need to seek professional help or buy a Ford Raptor. Try an old Jeep, build it tight and tough and beat the living hell out of it!!! LOL

Why? Some of us use our trucks for what they were built for.
If I cant drive it and play with it the way I want, then why buy it?
I dont do trailer queens.
I've driven every custom vechicle I've built for 10s of thousands of miles.
Current show truck has 140K miles on it and is driven daily.

For me, you are probably right. I am in decent enough shape to lift my foot to the top of the bumper, but that won't always be too easy. Probably would order the RAM step as a starting point.

Out of town dealer, but well worth it. Some local bozos have RAMs listed at 3-5k over. Not for me!

Um, OK. All my faith is in Jesus Christ, but I'm sure some part time help down here could indeed benefit me. I have plenty of issues.

Paying 75k for a truck is not one of them. Raptors and TRXs are not tow vehicles IMO. I owned a 2015 Duramax, and it was a beast, but for the number of times I tow versus the amount I offroad, the Power Wagon seems more suited for my needs.

I have dragged our 7K+ trailer over I-70 and had no problem keeping up with traffic. I try not to do 70 while towing a trailer, so I can't say that I could do it over the Ike. I can do it on I-25, if I'm not paying attention. I drag it over La Veta, Raton and Wolf Creek multiple times a year.
As for taking my very expensive toy into the woods and the dirt? That's why I bought it. It got its first set of Colorado Pinstripes about two weeks after I picked it up. I don't abuse it, but I definitely use it.

I bought a 2022 Level 2 Power Wagon for MSRP in Littleton in October. I‘ve put about 2500 miles on it so far. I haven’t pulled a trailer with it yet, but I will say it handles great it’s the snow and handles Rabbit Ears pass like a dream. I have pulled two vehicles out of the ditch using the winch. Worked like a dream.

I looked at a level 3 when I bought mine, but the main differences were a sun roof, ram boxes, and wheels. None of those options (plus a couple more I’m sure) were worth the additional $7k for me. The level 2 has all the options I wanted: Towing technology group, safety group, heated/ventilated front and rear seats, bed utility group, bed liner, and a few others.

I’ll likely be selling mine this spring; only because I don’t do much towing and have a TRX on order.

Some info for you.
I'm 5' 10" My PW has 35" BFGs on it.
Bed step is about at my knee.
Top of bumper is about at my waist. Tailgate is about at my belly button.

none of those options you described are part of the level 3 anyways. also why did you buy a power wagon just to resell it in six months? Probably be out little money because of the market but still. I'm a bit confused.

The bed step is stout and very handy, I too use it way more than I ever thought I would.

I have an Imperial Outdoors X-22 camper which is close to 7-8k once it is loaded, full tanks and gear etc and I can pull 70 and 285 coming from Denver with the flow of traffic with zero problems, that’s with 1000+ extra pounds of sliptank/toolbox and other stuff in the bed of my truck too, also no over heating issues.

Extra fuel capacity, some people are using titan tanks and the aftermarket additional tank off the diesels (don’t recall the brand) that goes in the spare tire location. They are having zero issues with that

The dealer didn’t know the difference between level 2 and 3 when I asked, but those options were the options that were obviously different between the two they had on the lot.

I bought it because I wanted a large 4WD vehicle for the winter, knowing the TRX was going to take a while to build. I realize I may pay a bit (i.e. lose money) to drive it for 6 months, but MSRP for the 2022 HD Rams just went up $2k which should help with resell. Also, reading through this forum and others, the used vehicle market is far from typical these days. I already have a price-locked trade from the TRX dealer, and will shop around with other buyers/dealers when the TRX is built. We shall see.

makes sense. I mean I can't say anything. bought the wife a 4runner in july and we are getting rid of it already. haha

yeah the biggest difference between the level 3 and two are the 12 inch screen is standard on the 3 the interior is a bit nicer, better headlights, and standard buckets.

Pulling 7k with a Duramax - or I am sure it is the same with a RAM Cummins - sort of spoils you. So easy. I was surprised my 6.2L 1/2 ton also does it easily, truth be told a 5.3L GM with a tow package is much more suited to the task.

I have taken my AT4 off road with good success, but I would appreciate the selectable lockers and extra clearance. The new AT4x / Silverado ZR2 will have those features.

Props on the pinstripes - I did that same thing within 1 week of owning a 2010 4Runner Trail. Never cared after that!

I priced out a L2 adding features I wanted compared to an L3. It worked out to less than 3K different, and I rather like the jail bar grill, so I would go with the 3. The TRX is a great looking truck, and I would happily pay the extra if it suited me. I am sure you will enjoy the heck out of that!

PS - I suspect your dealer is Brandon? I tested a PW there. While I was waiting for them to bring up the wagon, I walked over to a semi that had just delivered 10 new trucks. I had spotted the bright blue TRX sitting on top. As I walked over, I overheard 2 employees. "10 units, 1 damaged" said the first guy. "Which 1" asked the second guy... "The TRX" replies guy 1. "F*#K!" says guy 2... apparently, a door was hit with a poor forklift stab! AMAZING.

Much appreciate your detailed information and photos! The step does look robust!

Great feedback. In reality, my current truck is rated to tow only 8900 or so, and it does fine, so I'm sure the Power Wagon would exceed my needs.
